500/5.25 are too large, original size is 5.00X16, available from Heidenau through numerous German retailers

not questioning your recommendation, but i doubt you would see the difference between a 5inch tire and a 5 and quarter inch tire if they were mounted next to each other.

visually, no you wouldn't. But the correct sized tire would result in a speedo that was a bit more accurate, as well as bringing the RPM's of the engine up more appropriately. Split beetles are already geared too tall in fourth gear, and the smaller tire helps get the rpms up.

This retailer sells P29 Series but not this size, you might want to ask them

motorcycle tires ? bad idea . not load rated for a car
for starters. wear out super fast. small contact patch. ect..
seems dangerous to me. scary enough on 500/5.25 bias ply's.

the P29 is not a motorcycle tire...

and 5.00/5.25's aren't scary unless you have some issues with your car, I've put thousands of miles on my car with them.

ok i stand corrected the other website showed them for motorcycle side cars.
scary was an overstatement . should of said sketchy compared to a modern Radial. more accurate. especially on crappy California roads and drivers .

the bigger the bumps and potholes the more the bias plies shine. they don't last long, and they do not corner like a radial, but they sure smooth out the ride.

... just bought a set of 4, 5.25x16, from in thesamba classifieds = Firestone - probably won't use the white wall side, out - for our 1950 11A - tall, skinnies look great on a split - we rarely drive oner 40 MPH - over that speed, we find that the rear-end hops when turning severely - z

If you are running correct pressures and drive sensibly in an old car cross plys are just fine. Try to corner at 50 mph like a modern car & you will regret it !

I cant find a stockist of these in the UK, and no stock in Germany so far 😕
