I got mine at the hardware store. It's just a metric bolt. If you think of it, select grade 10 rather than grade 8, because grade 10 is stronger. Personally, if I had grade 8 already I'd probably run with that. It does not need a tremendous amount of torque and is assembled with hand tools.

I used 10mm x1.5 pitch x 70mm bolt. It does not need a nut if it has the original engine with a captive nut already in place.

The ones I am using are the conventional gloss finishes.

Though I did boo-boo it up on the front piece of the alternator backing plates. To remedy that I used a clear Rust-O-leum truck bed liner spray to "texture" the piece so I can re-paint copper for a different texture finish than on the smoother fan shroud. I'll look good!

Or should I do it in Silver like in Rome's ghia engine? Hmmmm

I also found out that the previous shop, to "clean up" the heater cores, just spray painted over the dirt build up. Though oddly there there more dirt on Top of the cores then on the under side. Oh well! they're better but I'll need new ones eventually from rust.

Yes I primed and painted rusty pieces. They’ll get upgrades soon…

Here’s a preview.

OK... I need y'alls help on this.

Do I have the wrong alternator? The 34pict3 won't fit. I have to use the 30/31 solex for the moment. What is the challenge here? I got the CB Performance intake with the baffle in the bottom, but the outside shape should be stock.

https://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/3151.htm

The alternator is a rebuilt Motorola 043 903 023

Shadow was built in January 1974 so its an early 74 model.

The problem is the fit of the aftermarket intake. Poor manufacture has it leaning too far to the right.

Actually it’s manufactured very well, and the support and vertical plenum are in the same place as the stock intake.

The question is, if this alternator with this wider collar on the pulley end is the correct one for the car. It should be running a 34pict carb but can’t because of this collar won’t let it fit. Hence I wonder if the original non-internally regulated alternator that the car was sold with had this collar as well.

I do see the same shaped alternator in the other photos of original engines. I also considered if there was some sort of smog equipment under the carb raising it, but that would displace the air cleaner to high too.

The picture from Rome shows an EGR valve between the manifold and carb.

SO the EGR item under the carb would have a plate that raises the carb? Hmmmm ok. I'll have to look into those adaptations and come up with a solution.

Awesome, thanks. Found some at a place that has them in stock. Hope 3/8 inch will be enough, plus an extra gasket. Look into longer studs too.

Now to get the rogue #4 spark plug out from under the tin where it slipped over the head by the heat riser cover bolt. GRRRR... Spark plugs these days, soo rude sometimes.

SO aside from a coil ignition problem, which I posted in another thread for focus on it, I am having an electrical issue. Probably of my doing but...

Arrow When power gets turned to ON on the ignition switch, the relay in the most Left position clicks on and off quickly, about 2x as fast as the turn signals/hazards.

1) If I turn hazards on, they flash as normal and the relay acts as normal.

2) If I signal Left, the relay acts as normal for turning Left.

3) If I signal Right, the relay speed is 1.5X normal.

Is there anyone who might have idea which wire or connection to focus on?

I will start tracing circuits with the right turn signal wires.

Ok. I need the “it will not start” chart. Everything looks right, fuel is there, spark is there, I have a spare correct distributor on there with adjusted points and I believe the timing is right…

It’s driving me nuts.

But I got the 34pict3 carb on there and a clean new air cleaner box! Ooooh it’s looking great!

So Saturday didn't go great. One of the pistons on the front left wheel cylinder was frozen up. Upon trying to get it to loosten up, one of the sides of the piston broke off, so I have more of those on order at one of the FLAPS places.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I have been working with spare purchases I made to get my Dash in order to go back together. I am almost ready to wire in my ignition cut off system. I modified a light switch to offer three different options for cutting off, or allowing two different options on starting the engine.

The top dash switch plate is the one going in, with the best parts from three+ sets of switches and lights.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The best thing so far if the external mounting of the third brake light. I got one of the Gerrelt Spoilers and put that on, and then got from Ebay a cuttable stick on spoiler LED 3rd brake light and put it on the Gerrelt Spoiler.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Tomorrow hopefully I can get the parts and some help with the brake lines, cylinders, and bleeding. I'd like to get driving the car by July.

Where did you get that Gerrelt spoiler?? Man I'm finding ideas I like here - the spoiler, the 3rd brake light location, the modified toggle switch for a starter button...

In the interest of conversation about the "mystery", I have a 34 pict 3 carb and 043 903 023 alternator on my '73 AK engine, and no spacer nor EGR between the carb and intake. It looks like either your carb is sticking too far aft, or the alternator is too short and sitting too far forward. I have plenty of space between the carb and the alternator case no matter how low the carb would be mounted; I could drop the carb until the choke thermostat hits the top of the alternator and have a 1/2" between the carb and alternator, because the carb sits forward of the wider part of the aft end of the alternator case.

Info on the Gerrelt spoiler right here!

http://www.gerrelt.nl/gerrelt-roofspoiler-info-price-and-ordering-english.html

The info on the 3rd rear brake light here! - This one is in carbon fiber finish, though some offerings offer the plain black version as I have.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/125089868125?_trkparms=am...%3A2047675

Yeah the contradiction in the spoiler photo, from the top image to the bottom image is deceiving. It definitely needs a shine in some places, though I like the more satin weathered finish, at the moment at least.

I was able to mount the 34pict3! The stock intake must have been in a more forward leaning rotation. When I mounted the baffled intake from CB Performance, that intake center section rotated far enough back to mount the carb in the space behind the wider alternator protrusion.

Question Does anyone reading have or have used the shifter lock? I just ordered one from Heritage Parts Center. - It showed up in a taped box inside the package, though no instructions, no diagrams, paint chipped on it, and scratches near the key area as if it is a used return part.

I can't get it to lock to a point where it remains locked and the key able to be removed.

If there's any way to adjust this item to lock it In Gear, I'd appreciate the help, otherwise it is going back.

Exclamation As for the modified light switch to make it into a multi-option ignition cut off, I will me making a tutorial for it, in the next week.

So today I cut the start wire from the ignition switch and crimped on new ends to put into the light switch I modified, which works YAY! - I'll make a tutorial thread on that in a few days.

However when I went to assemble the switch panel on the dashboard, I realized that the nicest panel I have, is also the most bent.

To Remedy this I am going to add a screw to the area behind the shift pattern plate. There is still enough dashboard frame material in that spot under the speedometer to accept a screw, as I believe there's a metal plate behind the dash padding there.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

SOOOO that I decided to do was reinforce the area on the back behind where the shift pattern plate goes.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I added strips of the same black plastic, from the disintegrated old rear view mirror casing, and glued them in using Cyano-Acrylate(Superglue).

I will then drill a hole, and drill a recess for a countersunk screw to hide behind the shift pattern plate. I'll center it in the middle of the cross area of the four clip holes for the plate. And no that's not the shift pattern plate I am using, I have a much better one.
