the guy that spotted it says, on a dutch forum, that the front looked like a db5 or 6. so most likely a butchered type 3 on a front engined chassis trying to look like a convertible aston.

Here are two more pictures. I agree it's a modified type 3 body on a different chassis, and no longer rear engined - you can see a fuel tank under the back

Some think that if your beetle has a padded dash, it's an engine donor. Some think that if it has push button door handles, it's a boat anchor.
Do what you want. Ignore the elitists. Drive your VW. Enjoy life.

Not any I know of. Checked with some car app groups and they also came back with Sunbeam Alpine but the lines seem to be slightly different and I agree the door handle position looks like VW 1500. Maybe it will show up somewhere else this summer.

Am I the only one looking at the bus helicopter and wondering if it would be air worthy and pass an FAA inspection?

Would it be more plausible if the rotors were blurred? (Not the conception, but the authenticity of the bastard.) Very Happy

I'm thinking it was scratch built. 20 sheets of Home Depot sheet metal. 40 gallons of Bondo.

That rear wheel arch is all compound curves and has a dent in it. Looks like donor steel to me. If someone was talented enough to build those panels out of steel, I would guess they were talented enough to make it all look better.
