Have just fitted my headliner so now looking to fit the front and rear glass
What models came with the chrome or aluminium strip?

Any help would be great

The deluxe models would have originally had the trim. You can buy the rubber seals that do not take the trim. It is less expensive that way and the trim can be "fun" to install. Some just find the no trim style easier to deal with. I personally like the look of the trim especially on a stock restoration.
The scrapers both inner and outer do serve to keep moisture out of the doors. The window glass is raised and lowered within the felt guides. There are different scrapers depending on your year - up to 1964 and then '65 and up.http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=113853321CGR _________________ 1960 beetle

If you are replacing the door scrapers (and even if you are not), be sure to make sure the drain holes are open at the bottom of the doors, and replace the plastic sheet that is often missing. This sheet directs water that inevitably gets past the scrapers away from the un-waterproofed Masonite door cards; make sure you tuck the bottom edge to the interior of the door for proper drainage. |

Ok thanks, so apart from rubbers trim and glass I need nothing else to put the glass in on a bare shell ?
I realised I jumped the gun on the scrapers- I haven't really thought about them yet but need to soon. Therefore have no clue what any of the parts are and what they are about
Would anyone by any chance have a schematic for a early 64 door that I can lol at to start to get an idea of what I need please ? |

Why is the chrome trim such a pain? |

Is that a rhetorical question?
It's a pain because it is a tough manipulation to get the rubber on the glass, the trim in the channel, and then the assembly into the body opening without the trim popping out along the way, or tearing the headliner at the edges.
Spend some time searching... there are threads about installing windows and lots of little tips about lube, wire, helpers, masking tape, etc. Felt channels and especially the wind wings have their own special kinds of pain.
With that help, I've done all Bug windows, and all but the windshield on a Type 3 (I cried uncle and left that one to the pros). |

I did mine and the job was not too bad. Sometimes the rubber will want to pull off the glass and so you may need to use tape. There are variables like the quality of the rubber seals and having them warmed up. Do a search and you will find many threads dealing with the installation process. Patience is good when doing this job. I did mine outside on a very hot summer day and that helped. I remember doing that job on a '74 regular beetle inside my workshop during the winter months and it was a lot more challenging.
You may also want to look at the vent window seals when you are doing this job.

I second that. There are parts I will use from CIP1 but window rubber is not one of them. |

The CIP molded corner seal is from VEWIB in Germany. Nothing wrong at all with it. _________________ My Beetles :

I have used the CIP1 rubber and its the worse. WOLFSBURG WEST or WEST COAST METRIC are the best. I used the WW the first time I installed my windows and they all seem to work out GOOD. The only thing I had to do was use a fair amount of silicone spay for the windshield. The second time (Yes I had to do it a second time) I used WEST COAST METRIC rubber and it was a little tight on the front and rear windows. The other thing is, there are two different windshield seals, one for OE glass and one for AFTER MARKET glass. You need to call both vendors to get the proper seal. OE glass is cut a little large in the lower corners as the after markets are cut a small. |

Interesting, I need to do my 65 soon and was deciding on WW or WCM. |
