I've got a Manx copy fiberglass dune buggy. The floor pan and center tube are metal. Can't find the vin number. I've looked in several areas where I was told it should be and no luck. Not sure that I will able to get a title with no vin #. Can I get a vin # off an early junk beetle and put on this buggy. Sure it's probably illegal . |

If it has one, it's in the back half of the car. Right in front of the shift rod coupling access plate. _________________

Interesting thing happened to me. When I bought my Manx copy I just used the serial number the last 2 owners had it registered under. This is year #4 for me and I finally thought to check it out. That serial # does not exist on this Buggy anywhere. It's not the one on the floor pan, not the engine serial number, not even a legit VW serial number.
What the heck?
Well the lady in the registration office said it didn't matter to her so who am I to rock the boat. Just get out the number stamps and put it on somewhere. According to thier records it has been registered under that number since 1976. If something shady transpired back then, chances are those involved have all died by now and it won't matter. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. Chassis dating to before June 1949? The VIN used to be up by the shifter. Such a frame would have a lot of other differences, so you would know.
I have heard that there is a real Manx buggy out there somewhere built on a 1948 frame. Seems a shame to cut one down now, but at one time it was just a cheap old Bug that likely frustrated the builder when he realized all the work needed to update it to something halfway modern. _________________

IF it is there its on tunnel just a few inches forward of opening for access to shift coupler. (look for small circle with "VIN" in graphic) If not there its most likely been removed.... IF it has a vin assigned by any state it could be missing or anywhere on body or chassis....

Is it a VW pan and tunnel or fabbed? _________________ Kafer_Mike

I would put a thumbs up emoticon in here, but Everett chose a set of emoticons for the Samba that's overflowing with hateful machine guns blazing images, but no approval ones. _________________ Richard

The VIN is here if it is a VW pan. Ignore the "Clutch tube" label.
Just in front of the shift coupler access opening.
