Hi there I am new to the VW world so forgive my ignorance. I just purchased a 1967 beetle that I am going to restore with my daughter. I bought an interior dome light but there are no wires. Is there a wire harness or kit and diagram out there for sale? If not what gauge wires do I get and how/where do I wire it to? I have the dome light housing and bulb. I don't know if the little Button on the door gets wired or if it's a simple non electrucal switch. Any help would be much appreciated and I look forward to learning from all of you guys.
Ruben

Welcome to TheSamba!

You should start with the 1967 wiring diagram:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

You can see the dome light (Y) has two wires and a ground. The light assembly has a metal clip which grounds to the body when the assembly is installed into the area above the door. You may need to cut the headliner or clean up the metal here to get a good connection.
The two wires (red and brown) run forward and come out the bottom of the A-pillar to the left of the front windshield in the trunk area. Note the "0.5" in the wire. This represents the metric wire size (0.5mm^2) which works out to around 20AWG. Use a straightened coat hanger wire to feed the wire into the trunk. Once there, the red wire runs to the front end of the #10 fuse where it has constant 12v. The brown wire runs to the left door switch and daisy chains to the right door switch. Either switch will ground the wire when either door is open. Depending on the switch position in the light assembly the lamp will be grounded to the body to turn it ON at any time, or will ground thru the brown wire which is grounded when either door is opened.

I hope this helps.
