After close to 2 years I am FINALLY getting my 79 Westy back from the SECOND shop! Long story short: I hired a "VW specialist" in my area to restore the body and give it a full paint. He was a total jackoff and royally messed up numerous things on my Bus, including not giving me all the hardware needed to install my pop top canvas. This is my project for this weekend so any help is appreciated.
I have done 1 of these in the past with no issues but its been almost 20 years. Wish me luck!
Can anyone tell me what kind of hardware I may be missing? I currently have the 2 long rails that attach to the roof, 4 smaller rails that attach to the roof and a large metal bar approx. 3' that attaches to the middle of the top in the front. It looks like that piece has 3 bolts (all missing). I also have none of the sheet metal screws that attach the metal rails to the roof, not sure what size those would be either. _________________ "SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE" |

Sounds like you have the main parts which are the rails. I don't know the size of the screws but with a little experimenting I bet you could find them at any hardware store. They are just a small, short sheetmetal screw.
You might also need the plastic strip for the staples on the top. There are some threads here where folks used a substitute plastic strip but I can't remember what they used.
Good luck with the install. _________________ 71 Westy 1600 DP, all stock Bus 1

I hope you have the hinges and the push-up bar that latches it in place. You should also have a catch on the roof and the mating handle on the top. Your best bet is to study some images and figure out what you have and don't have.
The little screws are countersunk sheetmetal screws. 1/2 inch long, probably #4 or smaller. |
