Absolutely the best fabbing/mending/rust repair 4 pages I have read on this site.
I only wish i had seen it in real time as I had many questions.
Did you have difficulty using the TIG around rusty metal? What did you use for shield gas?
Also great to see a real German style anvil. I'm in US and forced to use a 150 year old Peter Wright (English). I use the anvil a lot.
the 914 is such a great car. Incredibly low coefficient of drag. The 1.8 engine is a great engine also.

Sorry for the late answer and the really kind words !!
Please do not hesitate to ask anything you want to know, happy to help if I can!
TIG can be tricky around rusty metal but usually I cut large enough to weld to solid and not rusted metal, so no issues then. For the TIG Welding I use Argon as shielding gas.

Here a recent picture, the car gets enjoyed as often as time permis :

What a weekend ! Needed to do a 1000 miles round trip in 3 days for a Wedding (friday 500 miles, saturday Wedding, sunday 500 miles), so decided to do it with this toy...and what a good decision !It ran perfectly, highways, small curvy roads, it can do everything and what such fun!!
Weather was sometime grey:

Just spent most of the day reading through this fabrication/refurbishment thread.
OP you have fantastic fabrication skills. The complex, compound pieces you fabricated in your lovely 463y.o. work shop are amazing.

If you think your car was a rusted, poorly patched together car.
You should see the POS 914 I have sitting outside rusting away at my house.
The "Hell Hole", jack point and lower pass side rear rocker panels are almost completely rotted away from the car.

Thank you for sharing your 914 build with us. It helps some solve problems and issue that we may not have been able to think of.

Great work!
