ok so i have a 1972 maxi taxi kit car that i just built a new motor for and im always tinkering with its alot of fun so i would love to hear from anyone on there ideas on what i could do to make things better/ more power out of what i have nothing crazy like through a bigger motor in it. now i am very happy with what i built its way more power and alot of fun but always willing to hear suggestions.
what i have now is a 1800cc mini stroker
new scat mag case
aa pistons 88mm thick wall
aa stock heads 90.5 ported and machined for dual springs and valve job
counterweighted crank
engle fk41 cam
1.4 rockers
single idf 40 carb
custom made intake for better flow and preheat
4 into 1 header dual muffler exhaust
svda distributor (picture shows 009 but that was changed)
lightweight flywheel
i know everyone will say dual carbs but my kit car body has no room for that with out cutting fiber glass and really really dont want to do that anytime soon.
as is now this thing rips after allot of learning and working out jetting and what not but its great so let me know what you think

Very nice job, well done. The only thing I'd worry about is over heating your mini stroker on account of fan shroud inlet starving for fresh cool air, pulling up spent (heated) air. At a very minimum, I suggest installing (and keeping an eye on) a cylinder head temperature gauge like this:

Really cool. Is that a different exhaust in the 2nd pic? |

Very cool little buggy! I've got a soft spot for T buggies.
MrGoodtunes covered my main concern. Perhaps you can make a license plate bracket for the bumper and run without the engine cover if the engine is getting a bit warm. You have some unknown air flow patterns and not much visible venting. It looks like you could be sucking used cooling air off back into the engine compartment and fan. _________________

Very nice car!
On the air flow issue I would suggest that even a flat piece of sheet metal that tucked up tight against the engine, wide enough to reach the body on both sides and extended back to the back edge of the engine cover would divert most of the hot air away from the fan intake.
I am assuming of course that you have ALL of the lower engine tins in place. That includes the sled tins and industrial tins too so that the spent hot air is released as far back as possible.
By the way... I see in the first photo that you have the paper tubes from the fan housing down to the heat exchangers in place. Are you running the stock heater/defrost system into that car? _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. Second pic is the original exhaust it didn't flow the best bad pre heat I got frost on my intake and yes stock heater tubes no windows can get cold. Thanks for the input on adding tins though I will see what I can do .. this was originally my grandfather's car been in my family since it was built it's never had all the tins I just got it and built this engine for a bit more power it was only a 1500cc single port so this is a massive improvement |

Yes an open car can get uncomfortable at anything under 70*F. Any kind of heat is welcome.
If the car never leave town the overheating issue might not crop up but any extended time on the highway would tell the tale. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. I have been concerned about the heat myself I put vents on both sides of the engine lid as shown in the picture but not sure if its any benefit. what do you think? I also built Brackets (not shown) thst hold the engine lid uo about 4 inches |

Hank22, your side vents are a huge improvement and exactly what ILOGS needs to do to his Buggy. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

That is a low pressure area so the cooling fan will not likely draw any air from those vents without the engine compartment being sealed off from the air underneath the car. I suspect that if you were to do a tuft test you would find the air is moving OUT of those vents, not into them.
Now that is not a bad thing at all because it will relieve the hot air bubble that will tend to collect under that engine cover. The cooling fan will then be getting most of it's air from over the transaxle and combined with a heat shield that covers the exhaust system and helps direct the spent engine cooling air rearward it could be a winner. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. I do like the vent idea i will have to experiment with that maybe put some one the side and one on top of the hood to get fresh air in the air cleaner.
thanks guys!! |

One vent thought is that perhaps you could create a deck lid standoff for your existing engine cover. Some modification to the hinges and latch to just move it strait back an inch and a half, or so. No cutting fiberglass but likely improved engine cooling. _________________
