Can someone with a late 60's model year take a measurement for me? My nose came off a 64, which had the early headlight wire loom routing through the airbox. We closed up those holes, and I meant to get measurements for the later headlight loom hole before paint, but completely forgot. Doh!
I think Sputnik60 said somewhere earlier in this thread that I would probably find things I forgot to do. Here's one of em!
I'm going to have to drill through the paint, but I want to only do this once. If someone can take a measurement for me of exactly where that post-65 headlight loom hole goes, and also what size it is, I would be massively thankful!

Hello Era,
I have a 1969 coupe. If that will work for you let me know and I'll pull some measurements. I will provide a drop dimension from the bulkhead that the hood latch mounts to and a dimension forward from the aft surface of that bulkhead. I will provide photos as well. The dimensions will be close but I can't guarantee "exactly". Its an awkward place to measure. Let me know if my year of car is compatible and I'll go forward with measuring.

Me again,
I think I can simplify the measurements for you. The headlight wiring loom holes in my car are 1 1/8" +/- 1/16" directly above the drain holes in your photo below.

That works, perfect, thank you! So directly above the rubber drain hose? I'll have to remove those to drill. I should've waited to install them, they were a PITA to fit! _________________ Currently own:

Yes. Perhaps these photos will help. Sorry, but I can't tell you the diameter of the hole. If you bought a new wiring loom, it probably came with the grommets. Mine did. If so, you can get the hole size from those. I hope this helps.

Thanks! I can't believe how long this thread is getting, and there's still so much left to do. It's true what they say about the last 5-10% being the most time consuming.
My goal right now is to have it running by the end of the summer. I might not have everything completely trimmed out and installed, but at least just to be able to drive it around my neighborhood. _________________ Currently own:

I haven't updated in a while. I've been pretty busy with work, and my wife and I also took an 8 day trip to Iceland and drove the entire ring road. Highly recommend it if you ever get the chance!
Anyway, I've been able to get the majority of the brand new wiring harness installed. And then while installing lighting, I got really hung up on the headlight ring seals. I spent probably 2 weeks fussing with these things, trying everything I could think of. The problem is that these seals need to be stretched into place and held there while the headlight ring is placed on them. Nearly impossible if your fingers aren't 2-dimensional.
Then out of nowhere I had an idea, and realized some pieces of painters tape actually hold the seal perfectly in place under tension. Then it's EZ-PZ to put the headlight ring over the seal and tighten it down. Once the headlight ring is in place, the painters tape pulls right out from between the ring and seal. I don't know if anyone has had this idea before, but it works perfectly.

It took two of these fresh air lever assemblies in non-working condition to make one in fully functional condition. Really glad I saved all these little things from my parts car. Thankfully I even managed to save the gasket from one of these without it disintegrating. I don't think anyone is reproducing those.

It is really surprising how much of this small tinker-y stuff that there is. You kind of forget about it during the "big" bodywork phase. It all comes off the car so easy at the beginning, but then going back on I want to make sure it all works correctly. The more I do, the further from the finish line I feel like I am! _________________ Currently own:

I thought I was being super careful bagging and tagging mine when it was in the pull-it-apart phase. I took photos of everything but even then, there was gaps that got me unstuck in a few places and left me wishing I'd taken even more photos.
I too was careful of that gasket and like you I managed to re-use it. I stored it in a ziplock bag with a square of cardboard to add a bit of protection.

Good call on the cardboard sandwich. I don't know what shape yours was in, but mine has almost no give left in it at all, and is bone dry. It'll definitely get some 3M black to carefully glue it to the lever housing before it gets reinstalled so that I'm handling it as little as possible in the process. _________________ Currently own:
