I'll be changing the oil on my car, and I noticed that oil filters are available for our engines. Just wondering if there is an advantage to installing one. I always thought the screen did the part of a filter. Bob |

Yep! Unlike beetles and type 1 based engines, ours came from the factory with a spin on regular oil filter.
Do not get the Fram brand unless you get their top of the line...which is pretty good but far more expensive than others that are just as good.
Just going on NAPA's site for best Variety:
Mann + Hummel (factory stock oil filter): Part # MAN W92017- $8.49 each. great filter, same brand as the dealer
Mahle/Knecht: Part # ATM OC28 (another common dealer stock filter) $11.49 each
NAPA Gold (Made by Wix) excellent filter Part # FIL-1521 $14.69
Wix from O-Reilly and Autozone Part # 51521 (same filter as above) $12.99
There are many many more filters that fit and work fine in every brand out there. Most would be just fine but these above I know are high quality.
