I loved my little, 2WD, 2005 Toyota Tacoma, 2.7 liter 4 cylinder, and automatic trans (wifey wanted to drive it sometimes, too, for trips to the Garden Center) UNTIL they had the frame recall. Now, I live in a Temperate Rain Forest, 500 feet from the Pacific Ocean.. the crossmembers, which are riveted to the frame rails, are extremely rusty.. I mean they are BAD. I have been through the dealership THREE times, for the chassis recall, and all three times, they said that the crossmembers were NOT part of the frame recall. I asked what would happen if I ground down and knocked out all of the rivets, holding the crossmembers to the frame rails, and all three times, they said the frame would twist like a potato chip (their words, not mine) So I then ask how in the hell that can NOT be part of the frame recall, as being riveted in, makes it a permanent part of the frame. The last time I went, the head honcho for the Western US in, Denver, I think, send a very nice young lady from Fairfield, CA, who I guess was a regional rep for Toyota, and she said, after looking under my truck, she had never seen crossmembers so rusty..But that they were still NOT part of the chassis recall. SO, every year, I get under the car with my rotary wire brush, scrap steel, and wire feed welder, and scab some more metal on the crossmembers. I could never, in all good conscience, sell that truck to anyone, unless I had them look un der the truck, and sign a statement that they saw what was going on, and were okay with it. Toyota, you can kiss my ass, and if anyone wants to tell Toyota what I have said here, go ahead, I have it all documented, with movies, photos, statements, etc. It's only Libel if you lie, and I ain't lyin. _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

I inherited my mom's 1996 Toyota T100 4X4 back in 2008 when she passed. It was originally from Grants Pass, OR and she got it around 2000. She lived up in McCloud, CA on the side of Mt. Shasta. It snowed a lot there but fortunately they used fine volcanic ash on the roads instead of salt so while the frame looks a little sandblasted, it is not rusted or corroded. Still going strong 26 years later... |

There is a little old lady not far from here that has an older Toyota pickup. You know, the little one not the Tacoma. It has fairly low miles, a 5 speed, 2WD but it may have the V6 unfortunately. She is well into her 80s now and can't be driving for too much longer. I should quiz her up on it again.
"Goes like hell!" "Not that I drive that way!" She once told me with a big poop eating grin! _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. (The mass media age) |

In the late 70s, when the Pinto was about to go away, Al Piemonte Ford was giving away a free Pinto with the purchase of a 4WD F150 pickup. I don't know of anyone personally that took him up on his offer. |

I guess the Pinto memo was correct
I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers but the actual estimate was anywhere between 500 and 900 by 1977.

Imagine a Pinto equipped with a brand new set of Firestone 500 radials.
My dad had one like that as a commuter car. He lived. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

this week I bought a 2000 4wd single cab truck with 119K miles on it for $500.
clear title.
interior is rough, body avg, bumpers bent. obviously a work truck.
I needed the engine to put it in a '99 crew cab ( also pd $500 for it with a bad engine) I have with an excellent body and interior.
the '99 is 2wd.
now the delima... the engine in the 2000 runs excellent, quiet and smooth, and I prefer the 4wd.
swap the interiors? or swap the engine?
either way I go, I'm going to have a good running truck on the road for under $2500 and no insane monthly payment.
On the flip side...I have a '67 double cab with a lot of money into it, just sitting in the garage only being driven occasionally.
Time to sell that one while those prices continue to soar. |

Personally I would go with the 2WD. A 4WD is just a sink hole for money both in maintenance and fuel economy. When I bought my last truck I looked high and low for a used good 2WD and could not find one. This 4WD has cost me more on front axle repairs and fuel in the last 6 years than I paid for the truck!
Have I really needed or used the 4WD feature? Ya about 6 times in 6 years but I could have just stayed home instead! _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. (The mass media age) |

4wd is not necessary for most people in most situations. But sometimes you need it. It all depends on how you will use the truck.
Today I am going out for my third load of firewood in the last week. First trip I drove my 2wd Toyota with my trailer. Got stuck twice, but managed to make it work. Now I am using my Chevy with 4wd. Only need it for about 100' worth of driving, but it is really the only way to access where I need to access. That makes the 4wd worth while for me. Also gnarly winter conditions around here make this truck very handy, even though we typically only drive it @1,500 miles a year.
For what you will have into the truck, I would recommend the 4wd version. _________________ nothing |

Yipes !!! I bought my 1970 sedan in Nov. 1972 for $1100, had a $31.41 monthly payment. Was glad to get that monkey off my back, never again had a loan for a vehicle, or had a brand new vehicle.
Still have that 1970 sedan !!!

5 years? That would be $43,020 without the interest
I wonder what the original average car price and rate is to get that monthly.
Maybe $37,000 and around 3%? _________________ How to Post Photos
