So few people will do this to achieve a rich, matte rubber appearance. And, to prevent the slobbered-on shmear from being thrown up onto the body from the sidewalls when driving off.

On my '77 Beetle, the Firestone tires would develop a dark brown hue from weather exposure over the winter even though the car has a full cover. Before my first drive of the season, I used a foaming tire cleaner which worked very well as to taking off the "brown". But once the foam had worked and started to dissolve/evaporate, I wiped off the remaining stuff with a towel to just end up with the normal, rich black sidewall color. Purposely no shine on the tires.

My Silver Acura RDX (2018) which I bought new developes this very same brown hue on Michelin tires. I use Meguires tire shine.....I dont like shiney tires either. Just rub it off before it dries and it takes the "brown " away and leaves it a dull black. Good for twice a year.

What a maroon!
He needs to check out the BAT graph on values, going up up up especially for nicely done cars.
Problem is all the flippers have been flooding the market with turds and project cars.

After discovering the wipers would blow a fuse when switching to high speed I figured the assembly needed some attention.

Although I don’t expect to get caught in a storm like I did last week I want them to work properly.

I removed the assembly. It was covered with a fine coating of 55 years of grime.

A good wipe down then on to disassembly.

Once everything was apart I opened up the gear case and was greeted by old hardened grease.

Repacked the motor with grease and lubed all the moving parts, reassembled and fitted it all back into the cowl.

Once I had all the wiring hooked up I tested it.
Really erratic and sluggish Confused
It seemed like something was binding so I removed the assembly and hooked it up to my trusty 12v power supply.

The motor ran smoothly. I put it back in loosely and tested again with the power supply.
It kept running smoothly.
So… I believe when I installed after the overhaul I over tightened the shaft nuts causing a bind.
I let the motor run as I adjusted to torque. (without the wiper arms)
Confident nothing was in a bind I snugged everything up, put the wiper arms on and hooked up the wires again.
Second time and works like a charm😎

It's been a good time to spend in the garage as the weather around here has been on and off again rain.

The emergency flasher knob is supposed to flash when you pull it.
I unscrewed the lens to check the bulb.
Of course it dropped out of the knob and bounced under the seat. Great Rolling Eyes
Searching for a few minutes with a flashlight and I finally found the tiny little thing.
I noticed the contacts in the knob seemed spread out to far so I pried them to the bulb would be able to make better contact.
Success! Now everything works in Joan as intended.

I have another special treat for Joan that is to arrive Monday.
Looking forward to sharing Cool

Isn’t cool that you can bend something here, twist something there, shave a little off, put a hammer to it, etc. And get our cars working better?

Completely different expectations than working with computers.

When Ghiagirl refreshed Joan back in 2008 a beautiful full set of charcoal German square weave carpet mats were made.
Joan would have had the full rubber mats but no source was available.

Finally, Airhead/KGP&R is offering a near factory correct set of rubber mats.
Joan is now that much closer to how she looked the day she was delivered to Ted Trudon VW😎
