Just picked up my first vert. 63. First- looks like someone cut the lip off where the top attaches to the body. Added these snaps. Am I seeing that correctly? If so does anyone sell this repair metal? See pic
Once that’s resolved, where’s the spot to get convertible tops these days? Would like to get a full kit with padding and headliner. I see jbugs sells one for about $1400, surely there’s got to be a better source than jbugs?
Thanks all! _________________ 1961 Turkis Sedan, 1641cc

it doesn't appear to me to be 'cut down' so not sure why they went for the snaps other than simplicity. here's a photo of one getting a new top fitted
you will probably need to replace the wooden piece that goes round the back.
people have used chuck's cabrio parts on here

Thanks for this. Someone else mentioned it was cut but as I got to looking closer I didn’t think so either. I believe the later models had a lip on the end for the top to hook into, but the earlier verts did not. _________________ 1961 Turkis Sedan, 1641cc

Up to early 67 models ... the top originally was positioned slightly below the rear body edge and just basically covered the body as a drip edge... The lower portion had a fabric or chrome trim (depending on year) that covered the staples or nails used to secure the top.
It proved to be a very weak area as tops are pulled tight and tend to work the bow loose as well as when the bow ages, rots or bow screw retainers fail due to water intrusion at that point .....it loses tension.
Mid 67 model a change was made for top securing at the rear. An added U lip to the body for securing the top with a cable which had better protection from water and no longer required staples to the bow there.
Your body looks normal for a 63.. just top is incorrectly installed.
Oval but.. you'll get the gist

For parts, call Chucks in VA. For top material, foam, headliner try TMI or Sewfine. A top is a lot of work, and the more you go up/down with it, the faster it wears. |
