|
I recently backed into a large tree and dented the bumper on my truck (see pic). I did something similar to the bumper on my Beetle, so I thought I'd experiment on repairing the truck first.
I was thinking of pulling the bumper and then using my hydraulic press to push out the dent. My concern is how to deal with the amount of metal stretch and needing to possibly have to shrink it.
Is there a better way to straighten a chrome bumper?

I would try to get the dent out in one shot. Don't use multiple force points. I think placing the bumper on a 4x4 piece of wood and then using another 4x4 to spead the force out and hit it with a small sledge hammer would be the way to go. |

As I was reading, I was thinking hydraulic press then you brought it up. I would use the press and push towards something solid. I would use wood only if I couldn't gather up sized matched pressure points. Of course heavy towels, tarps or duct tape etc to protect it. _________________ '69 Beetle
