Center defrost air vent

I want to rebuild the defrost system in my 1966 beetle and I’m missing this part that wolfsburgwest doesn’t sell:

But I also found in other sources that this piece isn’t correct for 66, but a kind of straight tube. I want to know which is correct and if either may work as they are very difficult to find.

I made one out of a small shopvac extension wand. Cut out from the top what ever size slot you need. Secure with tape or screw through retainer bracket. I also used these as a thimble to fit over the end of the hose connection at the heat channel in the pit. Makes it a whole lot easier fitting those together.
