Long time reader, first time poster here.
I have searched all over and am at a loss. My 2002 Eurovan seems to be making a strange clicking sound. It sounds almost like an electric click. It's rapid and when driving it sounds like it's coming from inside the dash. It may correlate to acceleration but I don't think that's 100 % true.
I have video of the sound, but not sure if i can post a video here.
Any thoughts? |

Update: The sound is coming from the auxiliary batter area. Appears to be specifically coming from the power relay (at least i think that is what I am looking at)
I am trying to read through threads to figure out how to fix this. Any tips welcome. Thanks |

You can upload the video to Youtube, then just post the link here.
I've got an '02 Weekender. Only thing I can think of is the isolator solenoid which makes sure that a drain on your aux battery also won't suck dry your main battery.

What happens if you unplug your suspected relay? There aren't any critical systems that are powered from that aux battery thankfully. |

Well i removed the part.
I am having trouble uploading my photos, but it's the same part as in this image. The white square relay (http://scoot.net/gallery/bbs/PhotoJun1553259PM.jpg)
Clicking sound gone. I am assuming this is an easy replacement from auto store?
I am not entirely sure how things would / would not work without that piece. |

It may be easy to match up with a generic relay. It's also possible that the signal that drives this relay is intermittent, and that's the cause of the clicking.
You could test this by figuring out which wire is the trigger wire (there should be a schematic on the relay that indicates which one it is) and plugging a test light there. Then watch it and see if it flickers while the engine is running.
One more possibility is that if you open up that relay, you may be able to see what the fault is, for example a broken solder joint on one of the pins. You could then fix this. |
