I have the hot-dog muffler on mye 1600 single port.
Mainly because it it she only cheap "performance" exhaust that exits in the stock peashooter locations.

It seem to be relatively little work to extend the primaries from cylinder 2&4 and cross them over to connect to the muffler on opposite sides, making them much closer in length to 1&3.

Similar to what they do on the CSP customsport

Would this make any noticeable difference to how the exhaust performs?

Just to make all primaries the same length
So if I do it must be worth the work, ie make the engine perform notably better, maybe exhaust sound also smoother

Without a merged collector it won't make a difference. Those hot dog mufflers are garbage for any thing performance oriented, they just sound like a great big fart

Cut the muffler in half and check out what’s going on inside. I opened an empi, monza type system and left and right exhaust connected to the same pipe. So, the pulses were dead heading right into one another, forced to exit through a bunch of holes drilled in the center. Anything is better than that concept, but nothing is ever as good as 4 into 1. A partition maybe needed.

a proper equal length merged system will do almost nothing on a 1600 single port, as the induction is extremely limited as well. Leave the exhaust alone and enjoy it.
