I can't find anything definitive in the search
I have a 1971 181 with reduction boxes at the rear.
What are my options to remove them?
Will a bug transmission and axles bolt up or do I need the spring plates as well?
Is flipping the crown and pinion easy on the 181 transmission? The transmission is fine so would prefer that over buying a bug transmission that could be faulty so have to do the job twice. Would it then be a case of bug axles or bug axles and spring plates?
Thanks in advance

Doing a straight axle conversion would likely be the same as doing one a split window Bus. The ring and pinion in your trans would have to be flipped, you would need Bug spring plates instead of modified Bus ones though, probably long axles and tubes, and it will lower the back end of your Thing by around 3.5 inches. _________________ If you`re going to do something, do it right. |

Hi
I did that on a december 1969 181 some years ago but I did use a 8:35 bug trans. It was more accurate than the original 8:31 with the 1500cc original motor. _________________ La terre n'est qu'un seul pays |

Why do you want to remove them? I have a '72 with reduction boxes. Here is a video when I rebuild my trans.
