What did he care? He wasn't driving!
All that mattered to Hawking was that the rear sliding door was on the curb side… which it was! |

Close! The article explains that he quit using it when he had to get a bigger wheelchair, which wouldn't fit right. |

Um, actually, that's a reference to black holes - things go in, they don't come out (well, even that's debatable, but I'm not so much as able to reliably spell astro-physicist without having a spell checker - I leave it for the heirs of Dr. Hawkings to carry on that discussion). _________________ Lord, give me coffee to change the things I can change, and wine to accept the things I can't change. |

Check the fuel hoses!!!… I’m kidding, hopefully with a current MOT, that’s not a worry for any potential new owner.
Seeing the Vanagon once again used for wheelchair access was bittersweet for us as we used our ‘84 to do just that for my Wife’s Mother until she ended up permanently in a home. With no middle seat, and a foldable wheel chair ramp to get her in and out, it was a breeze compared struggling to get her out of one of our other vehicles front passenger seat with frustrating and dicey transfers that left everyone unhappy.
We had it down to a well oiled drill with the Vanagon…. _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

How old are the tires? Just think, it may not have had the water jacket gaskets replaced yet, or a lot of other stuff that wasn't so good from the factory. Should probably figure in another $5000 in repairs because of the low miles. |

Family Guy pretty much ruined Stephen Hawking for me. The cutaways of Stephen and his wife are all my mind sees whenever his name is mentioned. And now a Vanagon...
'When this van's a' rockin' don't come a' knockin'!

Speaking in generally relative terms (<- sly Einsteinian humor?), this sale is on the strange side (<- no quantum physics humor meant or implied).
Is this the sale of a Caravelle by the estate of a former Cambridge prof, or is this sale of something touched by, used by... oooooohhhhh! The Great And World Renowned Stephen Hawking.
Put another way, is this the sale of a used UK version of a Caravelle Vanagon sold in the UK, or is it Buying A Piece Of History?
My guess is this rascal is headed for a museum somewhere, where it'll collect some "oooos and ahhhhs" (Actually Owned And Used By Stephen Hawking!!!), but mostly dust. Sad. _________________ Lord, give me coffee to change the things I can change, and wine to accept the things I can't change. |
