I changed the Fuel gauge on a 70 beetle on Saturday. After the install went to start. Cranks but no spark. The headlights come on no wipers no horn. I took pictures of the Speedo before I removed and put all the wires right back to the proper location. I am terrible at tracking down electrical issues. |

Check for loose or disconnected wire on fuse panel or other places... Just changing fuel gauge in speedo should not have had any effect on wipers or ignition circuits... You probably accidentally disconnected something while rummaging around behind dashboard... _________________ “Fear The Government That Wants To Take Your Guns" - Thomas Jefferson.

8 posts - so a newbie.
My guess is that the #15 wire that goes back to the ignition coil was knocked off during the fuel gauge repair. So first thing I'd do would be to turn key to "Run" position, and then check for positive voltage at coil terminal #15. If no voltage there, then look for an unconnected black wire near the fuse box (and bare terminal on the "hot" side of the fuse box.
And this post should be in the "Beetle - Late Model/Super - 1968-up" section. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
