Took the engine apart 10 months ago to make some improvements, sent the heads and manifolds away to the very knowledgeable torben alstrup who worked his magic on them.
Finally got the long block back together today, should have it fitted and ready to fire up next weekend.

You are one lucky guy, living near a master builder!
Can’t wait to see a photo with you and the Bug crossing the line in 12 seconds!!!! _________________ Jimbo

.
Glad to hear you still have the 70 I love that car.
Denmark isn't exactly my neighbourhood but yes I'm lucky he's on this side of the planet I guess. Though not as lucky as you Californians with all the good shops on your doorstep 😉
12 seconds might require a better gearbox than the stock 1500 I have right now! I'm currently having a box built to replace it, stock ratios but beefed up. |

You would definitely need a better box!!!! After I installed that 2127 into my Bug with the stock transmission, I destroyed the differential bearings!!!!!! Most horrible sounding thing. Then, take the transmission all apart and have to smell burned gear oil - AHHHHH!!!!! Not a great series of events.
Better gear box would help to avoid all of that! But remember, NO BURN OUTS! VW boxes DO NOT do well with those! _________________ Jimbo

BTDT!
One wheel hop on a dry pavement hard launch and, Blam!
Nursed the car home and ordered a new trans from my local builder. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Don't think I've attempted a burnout and I've no intention of doing any either, parts are far too expensive to break and fixing stuff is tiresome. Must be getting old 😁 |
