In the summer of 1957, the largest exhibition event held in 1950s Germany took place with the International Architectural Exhibition Interbau in West Berlin.

First model year of the Scirocco, 1975. Side marker lights had a thin polished aluminum or chrome surround, and the yellow was only offered that year. Very unusual to see steel wheels on them on a US model, since nearly all were spec'd out with the familiar alloys. For 1976 the position of the "Scirocco" and "VOLKSWAGEN" emblems on the hatchback were switched so that the brand and model read in conventional, logical order from left to right. |

^^ Thanks Rome, I too was immediately attracted to the Scirocco in this picture, although down the lane there are 2 more VWs (Beetles).
Those interesting facts you describe are good to know. Concerning the steel wheels, they look a lot like the ones the original Golf GTI in Europe was fitted with. |

Tornado, the GTI's steel wheels- as were the Scirocco GLI's- were 5.5" wide compared to the yellow Scirocco's, and other US Rabbits' 5.0". You can tell the difference as the 5.5" wheels' outer edges came farther outwards so that the outer lip was nearly vertical over the center hump. On the 5.0" wheels, the outer edge is farther inward. Even the alloy wheels on the US Scirocco/Rabbit were 5.0" wide vs the Euro GTI's 5.5" and had the same "outer edge" characteristic. |

LOL!
I wonder if that was some kind of marketing or mechanic trainer?
Anyone seen that at a dealership back then? |

Why are they called pan-off when the body is off? _________________ “If you care for a thing long enough, it takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? Mending old things, preserving them, looking after them – on some level there's no rational grounds for it.”

Cute-looking chick.
Looks like she was driving either the '65 Bug or the '65 Valiant convertible, and wanted to talk to the red Ghia owner. Both driver doors are open.
Nice '55 Ford wagon there, too. |
