Who did your chroming? Those look great!

I am just just East of Scranton Pa and took them over to Asbury Park in NJ. Super Chrome. Met me early on Saturday to drop off and pick up. They do a lot of work for a Tucker restorer that owns the patents and can make new Tuckers

Here she is about 30 years ago when I towed her home with 65k on the odometer

Even had original hub caps with body colored painted logo

And no that's not a picture of a Polaroid photo.....

After reading a trim ring post and the cost to redo the original Lemmertz rings I went with the suggestions of some rings from Bob Drake.

I like the black wall look and all this chrome

The VW logo will be body color.

Working on the fuel pressure and air in the line to the carb

Here all fuel line fittings are not the same. I bought some online and they are too thin. The wider brass came with a new fuel line kit. All are for 6mm lines but provide a different thickness to compress.

Well I opened the jig saw puzzle to see how all the hardware plated. We can see some pits but it all original so we will use the bulk of it.

I had a problem with a valve in the judson fuel pump. The air was just poor pressure, no leak. After all of this restoration work the clear fuel line fire testing helped to show the problem and checking the pressure was the right path!

Stock fuel press was about 2.2 psi and the Judson almost 6 psi.

I wasted my time with the hi Rez pressure gauge as the 6 psi pegged it.

I did put a thicker washer on the needle valve to not have too high of a fuel bowl level. Not sure with triple the pressure how to know if that worked. I always get some bleed back. Maybe I will pinch the line to the fuel tank and see if it

Update. After looking online I saw that 70s bugs had 2.8 psi fuel pressure so I went to Summit racing. I think I will try some spacers to get down to about 4 psi which doubles the factory 1.85 psi

Further Update: I measured 2 additional fuel pump gaskets and they were slightly over 1mm thick. I put these on, 3 pump side spacers now, and dropped the fuel pressure to 4.2 psi. I'm going to use that for now.

Right before shutting the engine off, I used a small pair of Vice grips on the fuel supply. The pressure dropped to 3.6 psi and it held for almost 5 min. I'll check later but it seems the needle valve is holding here.

4.2 PSI is where we will run her

One more try. 3 - 0.5 mm gaskets and on thin one

Pressure down to about 3.75 psi which is about twice the stock value of 1.85 p

I don't want to stress the needle valve or have excess fuel

All chassis bolts in and ready for the body once I put down the pan seal and cut all of the bolt holes in the rubber seal

Here I had to take off the seat adjusters because they were pitted. The plater did an excellent job.

Each was held on with 4 rivets. I used some stainless screws and double nutted them. Came out extra nice.

I then put the spring bases back on the frames I had power coated ( in 1995....)

Ghias had screw on ivory buttons from the Beetle 113 881 206 up to vin 1 649 252

The floor pans are original to this 56 Ghia. You can see pitting on the inside which we neutralized and painted. After all those years in NYC they survived.

Looks nice. I like the pitting, verifies it’s original!

Well its the one thing I chose not to rebuild as the Ghia only had 65,000 on it. It was a one owner.

The seats are a lot of work

Cleaned all the pivot parts them positioned the backs on.

The 56 Ghias have the triangle on the back of the pivot. The seats cracked in front of the pivot, my drivers was broken

I had a 57 where this triangle support was moved ahead.

Due to this my seat was racked a little and I had to do some "fitting"

Need to get some new rubber buffers, about 24.6 mm in diameter. I'll check other posts maybe this has been sourced already.

Well after 20 plus years the engine stand has served its purpose

The pressure plate and flywheel had some surface rust so we had to change these and polish things up a little before the attachment of the engine.

Getting ready to fire the engine up on the pan and drive it around. Let's see how the gearbox works.

The seats took a lot of work to get right.

Once done, we put on a few miles. Trans is excellent.

I put extra Marvell in the gas to run without the oiler. Not getting throttle to return fully to idle position yet.

Here are a few short videos of the fun tonight.

Thanks. There has been a lot of whining over the past 35 years. I call this Date Night with my wife Karen of 35 years. She's humors me ..... almost at 100 different cars we have owned together over these years.

Timing looks good. The paint shop liked the progress on the chassis so they have progressed to finishing the painting. Might be on track to pick up the body in a few weeks. We will trailer over the chassis across PA, about 300 miles, and go to the shop and let the body back down on the chassis.

Throughout the past 30 years we located several nos panels including the nose, front fenders, and rockers.

Soon I will need a sunroof expert!
