Hi - I have a recently purchased very solid 108k miles 2000 EV MV Tornado red w/ grey interior. I definitely need to replace the front section of headliner (sag), but without achieving an exact match to the original, I would have to do the entire back also (it would drive me nuts if mismatched) I would also like to replace the carpet (front to back) -even though I managed to get an unspeakable amount of dirt out of it, there's an underlying "Aroma" that just won't quit.
So my questions to you all are - Has anyone done this?
Where's a good source for carpet and headliner that's either a match or pretty darn close to the original and decent quality?
Thanks
Work already done on my Eurovan: Tune up / wires, Thermostat housing / pipe upgrade to aluminum. Brake rotors, pads, 6 hoses replaced and hard line section repairs, Trans serviced & new fill pipe/seal, shifter breakdown / clean. New Muffler from cat back, 2 new heat shields. Ongoing: Passenger side relatively minor bodywork repair and touch up, interior revamp. |

I used to have an MV and I replaced the headliner. If you chose to have this done at a shop, they have standard material that looks good, but won’t match. You’ll want to do the whole thing at once. Sounds like you are working on your car yourself, so you could give it a shot. Removing the A, B, C, and even D pillars is the trickiest part to not break the old plastic. Once that is done, it’s a matter of pulling out the big piece and wire brushing the old glue off the foam. I paid the shop to glue on some new fabric. I think it was around $100.
One thing to check out while you are in there, if you have a sunroof, they can corrode the roof sheet metal near the corners. This rust lifts up the sunroof frame and breaks the seal.
Not sure about the carpet- most folks seem to replace with vinyl (see cavevan.com) or wood. I haven’t seen folks replace the carpet. |
