Engine had been cutting out on decelerating corners/turns, found a broken wire at idle control, fixed it. Not perfect but only cut out 1x during 9hr of driving. Gonna adjust idle tmrw and I think it might help.
Drove up the coast, went sea level to 2600 ft elevation numerous times on the the sharpest, winding stop and go stretch of 101 that I know of. Calculated MPG and on this trip got 16.9. Very, very satisfied with this 1.9 of unknown mileage and care other than what I've done. _________________ so many roads i know

Do you have a photo of the front over the wheel well and around the heater box?
Thanks.

Thanks! It is the Sew Fine kit purchased from Go Westy. I also put in the Sew Fine insulation/padding in the front. I’ll take pics in the morning. But I am really happy with it,, the inside looks so nice now. Also smells much nicer.
It installed in about 4 hours and is the first time I did anything like this. I watched a few videos and people were complaining of overlap and removing/re-gluing. I just dry fit everything first and it all made sense.
The only problem is now I want new door cards to match the new look of the carpet:)

Installed some snap bamboo a while back, which was removed today and reinstalled after vapor barrier. Sanded down kick panel which will be stained, drilled, and secured tmrw.

Thanks for the overview and the pics. The carpet looks great. Fancy door cards will look good too. And then comes new seat upholstery. (But Vanagons with the full Sewfine treatment sure do look good.)

Put the bike racks on the GW swing away rung tower to test out the stability and transport of our bikes for cycle oregon. Very pleased with the rack. Exactly what we needed.

Took advantage of cooler weather today and installed the passenger seat cover. This one went on easier due to experience with driver's side.
Maybe better to do the back before the bottom, to allow a bit more clearance to unite the Velcro at the bottom of the back cover.
Bottom cover goes on pretty easy. Extend the fore & aft straps and they can be fastened by reaching under the seat, then cinched securely.
The transverse strap was a puzzler- I couldn't figure a way to attach it beneath the seat. I fastened it around the back instead.
On to the next fiasco!
////////
The old covers are available for free to anybody who can use them. Decent shape, though somewhat sun-faded, the complete set less one seat bottom.
Come and get 'em!
Don't be shy, we can yakk about Vanagons. _________________ =BCE56=

interior work time!
cleaned up, sprayed, and installed a center console/lock box my buddy fabricated from scrapped metal. not bad for his first attempt
dad gave me my grandfather's jig saw and I used it for the first time to cut door cards/interior paneling. the plan is to cover with blue corduroy fabric at some point. they're a little janky but seem to line up good enough
cleaned up and used tung oil to coat an old redwood plank I salvaged for the kick panel

Had these wet okole rear seat and mattress cover that I finally put on. They fit tight. I didn't fuss with the adjustments too much, but one could make it look better. They are easy to remove for cleaning.
I ordered the covers for my front eurovan seats, but I decided on sheepskin from covercraft instead. So those will be going up for sale when I eventually find the 4th armrest cover.
I will post pictures of the sheepskin cover when I get them on.

Installed a set of Manispeed injectors. Yep, it runs better with them. _________________ 70 Ghia Black convert-9/69 build date-stock w/133k 1600 SP-barn find now with a rebuilt tranny and engine

After camping with my new Dometic CFX55IM for most of this year (and not using the stock fridge once), I felt it was now appropriate to remove the stock unit and open up the space for storage. I purchased the GW block off plate for blocking off the stock flue vent on the side of the van, and pieced together the rest of the required parts from leftover scrap wood and hardware I had around the garage. I did have to purchase some L brackets to remount the fridge door frame trim though. All together about $20 spent to complete it.

Finished cutting down rotors into hubs for my brake conversion.
And was going to install my smuggler tool tray too, but didn’t think about
Thé body contour in the far back corner. So it doesn’t quite fit.
I’ll have to adjust a dimension!

See, here's the question.
Does it run better because of the Manispeed injectors?
Or
Does it run better because the old malfunctioning injectors have simply been replaced with properly functioning injectors?
No one has a definitive answer to this question.
Case in point........ Mine runs better with cleaned and serviced OE injectors.
I've yet to hear of anyone installing Manispeeds, driving for awhile, removing them and putting in serviced OE injectors and posting an objective report.
This would best be done as a blind test.
Dave |
I had had my injectors serviced for the 1st time around the 300k mark. They weren't very bad according to the pre-service evaluation, and they were very good after service.
I got the manispeed injectors anyhow, at least so I have a known good spare set of injectors.
With the manispeeds installed, I seem to start up a little quicker, idle a little smoother, seem to have increased my mpg slightly, and feel that the roll on acceleration is a bit snappier.
None of these observations are night and day differences, with the likely exception of my mpg increase.
I feel that the new injectors were worth the $'s. |
