Hello,
1989 AT Vanagon, 2,1l with factory a/c, has been pulled since.
After an unfortunate encounter with a deer in early summer, I have had my radiator replaced (insurance job, done by my usual Vanagon mechanic).
I now realize that my radiator fan is no longer starting when it should. I have jumped the wires at the thermo switch and the fan runs on first and third speed as expected. I am wondering if the wires are connected on the correct terminals of the thermo switch; I have been unable to find details on the connections in the Bentley manual. Does anyone have details on this connection?
I am also wondering if there can be other culprits. I gather the resistor behind the driver side headlight is ok since the fan starts fine when jumping the wires. I have arranged for a new thermo switch that will be installed soon, and in the meantime I am doing rather short drives, and keeping the engine temp down with the heater when necessary.
Any suggestions would be welcome, and I would love to see a picture of an adequately plugged thermo switch on a late Vanagon…
Many thanks! _________________ LP Willis
