There was some resistance to German vehicles in the 1950s, especially among the UAW crowd. Someone might have been registering their displeasure with the company for not buying American.

Spiffy bus with large skylight windows. Door sign reads "Mittelberg" for the village in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg, located south of the German towns of Sonthofen and Oberstdorf. Thus the "V" in the license plate.
