How To Remove IRS Seal

How do I get the seal off the rear IRS bearing cover? It seems like it is fused or glued on. I've tried prying with a screwdriver, pulling with pliers and heat. Nothing is working.

Is there a trick to this?

Hammer and punch from the back side.

Using 2 blocks of wood resting on the metal housing so the seal will fall out while hitting it with a punch from behind.
