Hi.
We got a picture from what is a nice looking car.
But how can you tell from this perspective if it is OG or replica?
Thanks

90+% of Speedsters you see today are replicars. This one has no provision for bumpers. Why? Hard to tell from just this one photo but I will bet replicar. |

Fiberglass replica. Look at the thickness of the fender lip and the location of the front closing panel. _________________ Thanks,

Most telling would be to see emergency/parking brake handle on the center tunnel - "hey, I was a VW bug". _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |

First clue for me when looking at these is the wipers/ mirrors. I have never seen a reasonable looking speedster put together with VW wipers from the 70's.
A real speedster that nice would have proper correct wipers , or none at all.
The mirrors also along with a just the overall *look* of the car. We're so used to seeing kits that it's hard to even recognize or remember what should look like what.
But unless it's a VERY high end and detailed kit, if you're questioning it then it's a kit. You sort of *know* when you see a real speedster. _________________

It reeks replica but if you dont know anything else, just look at the thickness of the front fenders. Real Porsche is rounded......this is , well not. And, slop in the top. |

I agree. The fenderwell edges and the wipers are also dead giveaways in addition to the lack of bumper cutouts. At least the fiberglass body won't rust. |

The turn signal is mounted lower on the body than on an OG Speedster. The top of the light bezel should be about 3/4 of an inch below the bolt holding the headlight unit on. Also I suspect there is no cutout behind the grille. It just looks like it's painted black behind the grille. |
