|
|
I was looking into putting a skid plate on the beast (74 baja) and sure, I could just buy one, but where's the fun in that? Anyone have any pics of custom skid plates?
I have a double-tube rear bumper, firewall mount, just in case that matters. I was thinking about putting one of those oil temp sensors in place of the drain plug and protect it with a skid plate... so... that's my thinking. |

I've got a skid plate made out of a thick piece of aluminum that's bolted to the rear bumper. I'll see if I can get a picture tonight. _________________ 1991 Tiico Vanagon Carat

Seems it’s all a work in progress. I’m needing to add laterals/ wings into mine to protect the oil filter and pushrod tubes. _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

Yes make it wide enough to cover the pushrod tubes even when you have the sled tins in place. I hold mine in place with "U" bolt style muffler clamps. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. Our is in a couple pieces so it's easy to replace just one section. They overlap each other to keep the edges from picking up, same as the transmission one slots under the floor plate:
The rear frame has a tube cross to stop the pan from getting knocked up too far as well:
And the thinner side panels tuck underneath them all so they can't get the edges caught either:
