The original '58 tag that was shared with me measured 1.0 mm or 0.04" or |
hmmm weird the one I saved from my 54 is .79mm thick and looks like the other ones.
Anyway, can't wait to get mine |
Can you please post a photo of the one from your '54? |
man I wish you had asked me the other day, I found the guy's address (one that bought my 54) so I mailed it to him as an early Christmas present (I didn't own the 54 very long, and I had found that tag in a box that the previous owner gave me but wasn't sure what it was but thought it was cool)
you never know though it's been 7 years since I sold it to him so his address may be different and I may get the envelope back with the tag lol.
it looked pretty much like the one you based yours on with a slightly different font style (was a little bigger font too) but the same shape, and I had measured it at 0.79mm, I didn't measure the one I got from you but it definitely feels a little thicker from what I remember. The one I had also must have been folded at one point because it had like a hump in the middle.
Anyway, also wanted to say that I got the tag in the mail (must have been in the last few days when I was away) it is a beautiful piece, makes me want to order one for my other VWs !!!! |

Thanks man, I am glad you like it.
Does anyone know if Porsche had similar tags? I looked through some of the 356 sites and they only mention the leather key fobs. |

My friend Bob Walton just bought some from you this weekend at OCTO. He was so excited he called me as you were doing it-getting vins for all his T3s! Making sure one of us was in front of the computer for him _________________

Yeah that was crazy.
He bought blank tags from me and then came back later to have me stamp them all. He had me do 6 tags at the show. I also did some dealer tags; Truman Motors, Economotors & Riviera Motors.
Thanks again Bob! |

Sorry to bump an old thread.....
I bought the tooling to produce these back in 2014.....
I have finally got a press and can now start to produce these as before.
Please drop me a pm in the first instance - if there is enough interest I will set up a classified ad.
Please note - I am based in the UK _________________ Jan 1968 1500cc - The family project! Celebrating 30 years off the road....

You can drop them in the mail. It's $1 for an international stamp here. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

I wish I could ship for a dollar!
I have just checked the rates - they are as follows....
Economy (up to 42 days delivery time! No tracking - nothing!) £1.47
Standard (up to 7 days delivery time. No tracking) £2.27
Tracked (signed for is an option at the same price - up to 7 days delivery time) £7.25
I am awaiting a fresh batch of mylar envelopes and I can then begin shipping these should anyone want them again! _________________ Jan 1968 1500cc - The family project! Celebrating 30 years off the road....

The dollar option here does not come with tracking or insurance. If the item you are shipping isn't expensive it doesn't pay to track it and insure it. It's just cheaper to buy it again. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

I'd like to make one of the later style for myself. Can someone help me with the measurements? (of width and length)
I read that the thickness on the later ones is 0.6mm. Is that right?
Thanks! _________________ 1971 1302LS Convertible (RHD) owned since '74

The late ones are just stamped on a very thin bit of tin!
I have access to one from my late Uncle's car if you really want the details of a late tag....
I may even be able to find a shop local to me with thin enough tin that I could even stamp it for you...
Most people prefer the earlier style ones as they're far nicer...
I supply them polished - or with a natural patina as they have been chilling out in my possession for a number of years now....
Feel free to PM me if you wish! _________________ Jan 1968 1500cc - The family project! Celebrating 30 years off the road....

That is fantastic! Are these made at all today by any companies? I would love to get a set for my VW Van! Let me know. Thank you!
