I’m rebuilding the rear end of a 1954 Oval - inner wheel arch to rear valance. Nothing left of original to use as reference. Does anyone have any detailed and well dimensioned drawings for this model? |

What dimension(s) do you need? _________________ Jimbo

Hi, There have been many repairs before. I cant rely upon the existing reference. I can see that the engine bay had been chopped about to accommodate the engine or ease the installation. So where I have a current dimension of 1095mm - 43 and 1/8" from the back of the cross member to the rear bumper bracket nut; before I fix the bumper mounting plate, I would like to verify this against any original dimensions. Have also included a picture of the front end for anyone interested.

Here you go! I used 2 yardsticks, so it can be easily imitated.
From the center of a 20mm stud.
Across the opening, touching the torsion tube assembly.
And resting at the inside edge of the lower luggage shelf.
I get 45 1/8”.
Hope it helps you out. _________________ Jimbo

Thanks Jimbo. Thats 44mm longer than the existing left hand side currently measures. That’s going to challenge me. I’m struggling to get the inner wheel arch and bumper bracket plate to stretch that far without seriously affecting the flow of the roof line and the curve of the wing mounting. This car came from California to the UK many years ago but as you can see from the pictures of the left side it’s had lots of patching on top of patching. |

You are welcome! I see all the patch work! Someone was into stitch welding. I am sticking together a 54. If you read my thread, I fully detailed reassembling the rear of the car back together. It was ALOT of work and a shit ton more in thinking. I ended up using the fenders and decklid as a guide for setting the panels in place. I also had some dimensions of the engine compartment to use.
Good luck! It is a game of the lesser of the 2 evils. Choose the path of least resistance and cross your fingers! _________________ Jimbo
