Recently acquired this Dolphin Industries buggy, it’s in pretty good shape so hopefully will be a nice little summer project. This will be my first buggy resto so I will probably be asking a lot of questions from all of you as I dig into this thing.

What an awesome buggy! I would keep it the same, just restore it. What a great find.
Enjoy the project. |

Started the clean up and assessment of what will need addressed tonight. So far it looks like a complete rewire will be needed, the engine will turn by hand, so I think it will not be much to get up and running. The last time it was on the road was 96 and it was just parked and has sat covered since then. Brakes, wheels, all rubber will need replaced. The fiberglass body is pretty good, with a few nicks and dings. The worst of the body is the battery box that will need some attention. Here are some pics from tonight:

You could clean up the battery area some, and shoot it with a 2K can of Raptor lining. Kind of hides the ugly patch job. |

The bottom is pretty much gone, I was thinking about removing what’s left of the old patch and glass in some new material, then mask it off and spray some under coating on it. I think your idea about the bed lining would be better than undercoat spray. Thanks! _________________ 63 Beetle

Finally got some time to tear into this thing. The wiring was a huge mess, so I decide it was best to remove it all and start from scratch. The pans look pretty good tho.
Gas tank will probably need replacing.
Thought the seats were Beetle seats, but they are obviously something else. Any idea what the are?

Very nice find! That Buggy is very complete. I have no idea about the seats though. The first thing I would check on the engine is the crankshaft end play. Push and pull on the pulley and if you have anymore than a very slight tick, tick then don’t even bother starting it up. It’s rebuild time. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. (The mass media age) |

Can anyone ID the year of this tank? I was looking at the Wolfsburg West tanks to find one to modify but didn’t see a match.

Looks like early 1968. If I am remembering correctly it was only used for a few months, then they eliminated that front vent pipe. Anything from mid 60s to late model tank should work.

I think you are right! The front vent is what was throwing me. I put one of the Wolfsburg West tanks in my 63. I'm thinking about pulling it out to check the fit in the buggy and if everything looks good, get one and relocate the filler neck to the middle. _________________ 63 Beetle

Originally the MANX and most copies were made around a 61 to 67 tank.... _________________ “Fear The Government That Wants To Take Your Guns" - Thomas Jefferson.

Going to pull the tank from my 63 and if it looks like it will fit with no problem, I will order another one from WW and relocate the filler. _________________ 63 Beetle
