Hi,
Has anyone found a good outdoor car cover for your Notch that you would highly recommend? I bought a "Noah" from California Car Cover Co in 2018 which had a 4 year warranty. I had to have it replaced under warranty in 2019, and again in 2020, as it developed tears mostly along the horizontal lines where the body meets the front and rear glass. Now its 2022 and its doing it again, and is finally out of warranty.
While it's great that they replaced it twice, I'd rather find something that can meet or exceed its warranty period in the first place.
The car is outside all the time in the California sun, and the California "winters". I'm looking for a high quality breathable all-weather cover that fits well and won't break down in less than 4-5 years. Is that too much to ask? Any recommendations??
Thanks. |

Here is idea. Look at the shape of the notch and attempt to compare it say 85 honda accord or 95 nissan sentra. Just a thought. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Thanks. It's not so much the shape/fit of the cover I'm struggling with, as it is the quality and durability. There are several manufacturers out there that offer covers to fit a VW 1500 sedan body. I'm hoping to get some first hand recommendations from anyone who has a high quality outdoor cover on their pride and joy Notch (for more than a couple of years) that they would buy again for themselves without hesitation. |

Maybe this is me. I considered the car cover for my Notch a limited lifespan (almost disposable) product when I researched and bought it. I live in Kansas and experience the range from 0 to 100+ temps along with rain, snow, etc. Not to mention the cat claw stretching from Tuffo my guard cat .
So, replacing it every three to four years was my expectations. BTW: I paid $99 for my cover.
Now, something I am going to have to deal with once I get it painted is a protection plan. No cover is perfect in protecting the paint surface from dust and the dust will act as fine sandpaper on almost any paint surface. That is the problem I will have to deal with this Winter when I get it painted. _________________ Ossipon

on the flip side - nobody responding because we do not believe in car covers. they hold in moisture, and cause scratches and rust. I wouldn't use one if you paid me |

I agree that outdoor covers are absolutely disposable. It's just that I have an expectation for products to generally meet or exceed their warranty periods, as it doesn't seem to be in the best interest for companies to over estimate a products life span, and then have to replace an item multiple times for free. I was only getting ~15 months out of my "4 year" cover.
I didn't realize that "we" on the samba did not believe in car covers. I agree that a cheap cover can do more harm than good. But I also firmly believe that a good cover on well maintained (i.e. waxed) paint is the best option for preserving a nice car that you don't have the luxury to keep garaged (or even under a carport). |

Yup, the first winter (we get real winters here) I used a car cover on my wife's car. I ended up having to re-paint it a year or so later due to the cover wearing the paint off in places. Since then I just park them outside and let the weather do it's thing. It sure has cut down on the re-painting of our type 3s. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I have found a top notch car cover manufacturer 28th great prices. Living in Oklahoma City....heat, rain, freezing.....similar to Kansas.
The cover is breathable, comes with a storage bag and built in tie down straps.
Until recently my car was outside year round. Itis a breathable spe ialty coated cover.
Waterproof yes. Heat and UV proof yes. It had one problem that finally did it in and I went ahead and replaced it.
It rained for a while and it got soaked on the outside. Not an issue. Them we got hit by that below 0 freak storm .....that froze that water hard. We had very high winds that whipped it for days. That cut it apart.
If I had simply paid attention to and believed the weather forecast and taken that cover off for a few days or dfied it and put it back on....it would still be great.
The company was given my far model and they pulled up a part number....and it fit great!.
I will post a link shortly. Ray |
