You can buy "flattening" agent from auto paint stores. You have to experiment then to get the right amount of sheen.
If you Google how to flatten paint, you get lots of answers for other methods.
One that I saw (perhaps even on here) was to mix gasoline with the paint! _________________ 1968 1500 RHD Lotus White Beetle since birth. In the hospital for major surgery

It's a PITA to use flattener. You and up mixing a ton of flattener into the paint, and it makes the coverage terrible. Recently using Utech I had to use 80% flattener to get the right "satin" finish. We ended up spraying two coats of color without flattener, and then two top coats with flattener.
Came out ok, but way more work. The flattener isn't cheap either _________________ modok wrote:

I used Hot Rod Flatz to get a satin silver. First paint job attempted. Turned out fine, although I wasn't expecting perfection.
Not sure about sealing wax red color tho. |

That's what I was going to suggest, Hot Rod Flatz. They have a handful of reds and oranges that would be close to SWR. One is 1806 Sunset Orange, I think. |

Go w the Hot Rod Flatz: cheap, durable, too easy. You could have a tall monkey shoot it and it would turn out tolerably. You will be surprised. I sprayed the interior and exterior of my beetle with Sand Tan.Only 1 gallon. It's been great for over 7 years, except a few spots where I foolishly trusted the PO's primer coat. Be aware that if it's a lighter color you will need to keep your hands away if greasy because it is not so easy to clean as smooth clearcoat. _________________ "A life of peace and happiness depends on your own gratefulness" |

Satin black factory finish!
Picture this on a resto custom with gloss black bumpers, wheels, and chrome trim painted in gloss black. The only nonblack on the exterior would be the brake calipers. Almost wish I could have a do over on my project.
