This is the earlier open type, and I certainly have them on my 47. When they changed to the enclosed bolt hole I don't know. |

Thanks Martin. I’ll see what Garwood says when I get an hour free. |

I’m working on Heb 428. We went back with a cable brake chassis. The original
Chassis was swapped in the August 1961 Foreign Car Guide (I believe). This
Thread is super informative. |

Thanks Nancy and all who contributed to this thread. Super useful! I just picked up a 52 standard and at some point I'm sure I'll need to adjust the cable brakes or do some kind of service on them. For now, they work okay. _________________ Vintage Classic Specialist, Orange, CA

Great thread. Read through it all -- maybe 5 times
1952 standard (not zwitter)
Question: What if the handbrake activates the brake lights, but just pressing the brake pedal does not activate the brake lights. Of course, pressing the brake pedal does stop the car).
Seems very odd, but that's what's happening at the moment (recently purchased).
Thanks |

It sounds like a ground issue as long as the wiring on the sending unit is wired correct. _________________ 1951 Split Standard Hoffman Build

Sorry, what is the "sending unit" to which you refer?
The brake light does work when the handbrake is engaged, just not when you push down the brake pedal.
Thanks |

It's a mechanical connection so don't think it's a ground likely.
How about sharing a picture of the front where the cables gather and the switch is. Take the cover off so we can see what you have. |

Yes, but I was referring to the brake switch that has power to it and connects to the end of the e-brake rod?

It sounds like the switch works enough to light up the brake light so I'm not sure wiring is problematic:

.
I'm guessing an adjustment or how the setup is installed is the problem. |

Great post. Lots of very helpful information.
I’m currently rebuilding this system on an early ‘49 standard.
After reading this post I’m pretty sure I have all the components needed.
My question is regarding what’s inside the tunnel…
* The main C section that connects to the brake pedal, does this have a cradle it sits in or does it just rest on the frame head / where it connects to the pedal and floats?
*The hand brake rod, Again does this just float connected at either end or does it pass through some sort of cradle or mount further down the tunnel?
I hope this makes sense, it’s hard to explain when you can’t see what’s happening inside. I put a light in there but struggled to see far enough.
Thank you. _________________ Www.hayburner.co.uk |

I had to open the tunnel on my 52 Zwitter 11A car. You can search my gallery for pictures. There are some braces internally in the tunnel for sure, but I doubt they would be different for cable brake vs hydraulic brake based on what I saw in there. That said, there are probably more knowledgable folks than me on here so let’s see what other information people have to offer up.
