I believe this is a porsche piston. Any help with the application is appreciated. it is an 82.5mm piston. one valve pocket. The face of the piston is marked with a "C" and "198", cast inside is MAHLE and 82L20

I believe this is a very early 3-piece case Porsche 1600 Normal piston, probably from '56. Non-offset pin, originally in chrome plated aluminum Mahle cylinder. The "c" refers to bore size variation as the original piston/cylinder clearance was less than a thousands of an inch (0.0008). Probably not much of a market for it. The "198" was a matching number to the original cylinder which would have also been marked "198". Because of the tight tolerances the piston and cylinders came as matched pairs. Group "c" pistons were between 82.450 to 82.455 mm and went in cylinders between 82.470 to 82.475mm. |
