My son's 1964 has two different rear drums, is this normal? Which one is the correct OEM drum? Thanks

The top smooth hub unit is correct, the lower ribbed unit is a common replacement drum for '58-'67 Bugs. It is 6mm wider, has a reinforced hub, and is only original for '65-'67 Bugs. In your case it is a replacement drum made in Brazil, common as Volkswagen produced many Bugs there. _________________

Thanks. Should I be concerned that it is 6mm wider? And if it is for a 65 - 67, do you think there is any fitment issues I should be concerned with. This is a January 1964 built bug. |

Having 2 different widths is a little concerning, but I doubt a real problem. It will not affect fit or function, the '65 Bug used that drum with the same stock wheels. The later drum doesn't have the hole at the outside edge for the oil slinger, but I see you are missing that on both sides. For years that part was not available so that is common. It is missing on my '63 too, has been for 30 years now. _________________
