OK Guys, here's a pic of the swipe. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks like it's been chewed on by a donkey.
Is it your lash cap or rocker pad that's not smooth?

Donkey or not that’s a good swipe.
Not that swipe matters too much..

Maybe time to polish some rocker feet?

Agreed, swipe looks OK to me. But if there's crud in there, it could change.

Haha, I'll take a look at those today. I don't think they are too bad but I didn't scope them out that well either.

Both rocker and cap look very smooth. I think it was just the ink blocking up.

I think I have my rocker geometry setup and have a final measurement to order my pushrods. I'm using 1.4 rockers with .060 shaved blocks. I didn't use any shims below the blocks. Here's a pic of the valve angle to rocker shaft center which shows roughly 90 degrees and the swipe is very similar on all valves.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I have a question about measuring full lift on my cam. I'm coming up with varied measurements per valve. My measurements are below and I measured each valve 4 times. Are these varied measurements normal or is there a problem somewhere?

Cyl #1 exh .560 int .574
Cyl #2 exh .565 int .566
Cyl #3 exh .560 int .557
Cyl #4 exh .530 int .540

Advertised is .573

I also have the following measurements for my pushrods that varied quite a bit.

Cyl #1 exh 10.723 int 10.718
Cyl #2 exh 10.750 int 10.744
Cyl #3 exh 10.758 int 10.750
Cyl #4 exh 10.759 int 10.750

Should I use the average of these and make the pushrods 10.744?

Are these variables normal or should I go back to the drawing board and find out why my measurements are so varied?

Thank you again

Your varied PR measurement are likely, how you have the adjusters set.

When I measure mine. I have three threads exposed above the PR.
It's not an exact measurement. But I, like you, I average them and order, from Smith Brothers. Wink

You are right 67. I tried clocking the oil hole on all the adjusters so they point to the corresponding hole in the rocker. Once I did that the threads at the top varied. Thanks for reminding me of that.

So now how about the valve lift measurement differences?

Anyone have an opinion on the valve lift measurements?

The last set of 1.4 rockers used did the same thing.

I rearranged them and used the ones with the least lift on the exhausts.

I do as Brian. Use the largest lift on the intakes.

Thanks Brian, that's a good idea. I'll do that and remeasure the two that were the lowest as well.

Even the Scat forged rockers will measure different. Most accurate I have used are the CB 1.4’s…even though they measure out to 1.45

Thanks All for the info. I wasn't sure if it was normal or if it was something I did wrong.

I received my pushrods from Dan and assembled the engine so I could measure everything again and make sure all was good. Everything looked good but then I started thinking about coil bind, the springs just looked very compressed and I wasn’t real sure if I had the needed minimum clearance. In the end I spoke at length with Dan and decided I should use a cam with slightly less aggressive lift. Dan schooled me on ways to check the clearance and I did have .060 minimum for each but in the end I decided to go with the Web 252 which has a little less lift and a little more duration.

So I broke the engine down, opened the case, took the gear off the 86b and swapped the cam out. I went to torque the case halves together and at mid torque notice the damn crank is hard to turn. Hell, I didn’t remove the crank so I couldn’t have pinched a bearing. Take it back apart and can’t find anything that would cause an issue so I pull the crank out and sure enough I crushed a bearing. The crank must have popped up when I pulled the case half off. So now I’m waiting on my 3rd set of bearings to come into my local shop so I can mock the motor up and make sure the new cam works with my pushrod length. Aaargh

Some good news is the tin fit really well so far with a little tweaking here and there.

I wouldn't run your breather like that.

The stock oil filler/breather has a baffle inside where the downdraft tube it.

How you have it set up now there is no baffle to the down tube. If you want to run the set up like you have I would run the hose up high.
