|
|
Tried a search, but didn't find what I needed.....
I've become interested in getting an OG steering column lock for my '64 T1. I have a couple of questions first.
---what years will fit and be correct?
---when the lock is installed, what goes where the dash switch was?
---do they come in the same VW lock profiles as the doors. etc?
---would they have been painted steering column color, or dash color?
Thanks for any help you could offer. _________________ '64 Bahama Blue Beetle / steel sunroof

It is interesting that the last column of the first line of that page states rhd only from chassis 1600440 which is roughly September 56. Does that mean you could not get a locking steering column before then? VW started rhd in August 51 so that’s five years of production without a steering lock option for rhd models. What changed at that chassis number to allow these to be fitted?
Cheers. Dave |

The distance between the steering column and where the dash curves down.
See these pics....'54 RHD and LHD vs 1958 RHD.

mine I put a cig lighter where the hole was my car had the column locking switch already there but was not working with a key broken off in it with what looked like a tractor ignition switch chiseled into the dash held in with a rubber garden hose washer was a mess! I replaced the whole locking assembly with one I think I found on eBay might have been in the adds here don't remember
You will also need the steering column to go with the lock _________________ Rupert- 64 Sea Blue Beetle with 66 Dove Lodgette tent
