How many grinds on a counter weighted crank (mains and rods) before it is considered trash?

Thanks

Three,
.040 under bearings are no worth stocking IMO.
If you screwed it up the third time give it to somebody else, that's why

but.... A crank isn't trash until it's cracked, or, at least cracked in a way that matters.

DPR repairs crankshafts.

If the crank is beyond what you feel is serviceable. Send it to them and they can make it whole again!
It'll just take some time to make it through their shop.

Depends on how big & powerful of an engine your building. On a mild 1776 I'd go .040" on a 200 HP stroker I'd wouldn't go past .020"

I won't build a stroker engine on a case that has had the thrust cut.

Even though while working at a VW shop, I built many engines with .040 cranks and align bored, thrust cut cases, they were priced and sold and stamped as such. Pretty much the last hoorah.
They were all stockers as well.

I'd heard that the heat treat on the journals can start wearing thin after a couple of turnings.

Plus the journals being a bit thinner/weaker, and a good radius on a turned crank being less likely as well.

Guess it all depends...
