I've noticed that crank pullies can have the key cutout at different positions when judged by the holes for inserting a screw driver to hold it still when installing or removing. Having the cut out at 9PM seems common but the pulley on the engine I'm rebuilding has the key cutout between 7 and 8 PM.
My question. Why the differences and what do they mean? _________________ Dave

Every crank i've seen has the woodruff key at 9:00 when the engine is at TDC on #1. _________________ Glenn

Thank you. I don't know why I was getting so hung up on the position of the key to the holes in the crank. It really doesn't make any difference. I pulled the nut and positioned the crank so that the key is at 9 PM and it aligned with TDC. _________________ Dave
