Thanks all for the various replies.

My issue with those funnels with the flexible necks is not being able to easily clean out the neck area with a rag or paper towel. This is more important when you want to use the same funnel on the road for both oil and coolant.
And yes, even though I might be able to clean the redline pretty easily, keeping it in a plastic bag is the way to go, especially if it's kept under your spare hoodie under the rear seat Very Happy

Think I'll pick up another one of the redline's so I can keep one in the camper and the other amongst my auto tools for my other rigs.

The cleanest funnel is the one you don’t clean and isolate from outside dirt. Without a picture, I’m sure few bother clicking on the link I provided earlier.

For those, like me, who don't wish to carry funnels, these are another option: https://www.wirthco.com/funnel-king/pour-spouts .

I must admit liking some of those pour spouts. Just more options for all.

From TheSamba literature archive for the 1981 VW Vanagon

Kinda neat, but if you have to use a funnel or spout anyway, it's not a clever design.
You still have to find a funnel, inspect for cleanliness, use it, drain it, clean it store it.
In the old days it was an oilcan spout, and nobody ever cleaned those.
Interesting how the license plate door stays down.

Love those air flow arrows coming out of the vents... like THAT'S going to happen, LOL.

...and wouldn't it be easier to put that huge box in the van via the sliding door? It's more than a foot lower...

Yes, they actually used the word "aerodynamic". Herman Grubenschnitzel down in marketing got sent home for that one. He later went on to head the diesel division.

Interesting how the license plate door stays down.

And no hinges visible AND it lays FLAT out of your way......... Razz Razz

GoWesty sells a nice accordion style funnel, you can let the license plate hold against it as a second hand of sorts and easily pour oil into the fill tube with your free hands.
I like it and it was reasonably priced.

The cap on my 1983 diesel fit perfectly into the license plate gap to hold it open.

So, your license plate Door spring is closing on you as you are checking oil, checking coolant, adding oil or coolant!??
Maybe you've dropped your oil fill cap behind the bumper when you were using it for a door wedge?? (I have) .......

One paint stir stick to the rescue!
Cut it to 9 1/4" long.

I sanded and orange shellaced mine.........

Funnels are also deductible business expenses if you have the TinMan role in Wizard of Oz
