If anyone has a product they can recommend for Windows7, please post it here so I can add a link to the first post in this thread.

Thank you.

Windows Paint that comes pre-installed will resize pictures. Just make sure to select the Maintain Aspect Ratio so it doesn't look all weird.

I am using Windows 7 (64 bit). Gimp version 2.6.11 works fine on my computer too.

I use Picasa 3 on my computer to resize photos for the gallery.

Highlight the pictures to be exported and select "File", "Export Picture to Folder . . . .". A screen will appear for the destination and a slide to select image size. I left it on 800 pixels. The photos are copied to the folder I created; from here they can be uploaded to the gallery.

Is there anything available for Windows 8.1? I am still trying to figure out this system after years of being perfectly happy with XP. The only way it wants to let me upload to my Samba ads is through OneDrive - which I am highly suspicious of, because it seems to want to copy every file on my computer. I also have not been able to find a resizer through this method. I would prefer to resize the pic on my machine and then upload it to my Samba ad directly from my machine. If anybody has any pointers, I would sure appreciate them.

Baffled by new technology...
Thanks,
Kevin

Does the one listed for Windows 7 not work for 8.1?

I don't have Windows 8 myself but everything else I have tried on Windows 7 has worked on 8.1.

Thanks Everett,
I downloaded the Windows 7 version. When I click the Browse button in the ad form, it brings up the OneDrive page in 8.1. I've discovered that if you click the down arrow next to the OneDrive header, you can select This Computer and access the pictures stored on your machine. They will resize automatically when they are posted to the ad.

There is an adjust size feature in the edit section of preview for Macs.

Is there a recommended solution for shrinking photos to avatar size on an iPhone? I've downloaded several resizing apps and none shrink photos down to 12 kb.

Any tips welcomed!

Do you know what size it's getting down to with the software you are using?

This is a common problem for people, I bumped up the size to 20KB as of right now to see if that helps.

Avatar won't accept. "400 Bad Request — cloudflare".

I see a lot of people on this ancient thread saying it has to be under 100x100 and under 6kb.

But the instructions right under the "Choose file" button says, "width can be no greater than 120 pixels, the height no greater than 120 pixels, and the file size no more than 64 KB"

So, I made a 120x120. Size was 7kb. It won't take it.

So, in case the text under the button was wrong, and the ancient (~2007) requirements in this thread are right, I made an 80x80, under 3kb. Still won't take it. Same error message. This was an image stripped of all EXIF info.

Is anyone able to change their avatar? Do you need so many "points" or something? Is there a secret password?

Thanks!

It was increased to 120x120.

Is your image a .jpg?

Yes, is it a JPG image?

Email it to me, I'll check it out.

Yes. Here it is.

Whoops. Won't let me load it in my gallery, either.

Let's see if this works…

That's the same 120x120, uploaded to Flickr, but if I put that URL into the "URL" field for my avatar, it returns immediately after "Submit", and the avatar isn't installed.

Strange.

I don't know what went wrong - I uploaded it into your profile and it worked fine for me.

It may be different than your original as I can see Flickr modified it internally
