Red 411 2-door Sedan, German movie "The Return of Superbug" (1979). Main "character", the yellow ~ '68 Beetle named DuDu (German license plate letters DU for the city of Duisburg) is chased by antagonists in a black Cadillac and stumbles into a "stock car" dirt track race.

was watching 'eldorado kadewe' the other night - set in 20s berlin. BUT when they are outside the actors are surrounded by the present day cars, signs, clothes etc - no attempt at period evocation and no cgi it's weird... director says they didn't have the budget and they didn't want the same few old cars going round the block plus it's art darling! well it doesn't work for me _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

finster, do you know what "kadewe" means? Would sound like "kah deh veh".
These are the German pronunciation of the letters K D W; stands for Kaufhaus des Westens = department store of the west.
A friend lived in West Berlin who I visited several times in the early '80's when I worked in Wolfsburg, and we went there on one visit. Remarkable store- huge by then German standards. |

yes I do thanks. visited the store in spring 1990 and had lunch there - it was very different from the 1920s depicted (no shooting or sex in the changing rooms!). the bbc announcer pronounced it as ka-dee-vee _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

Movie "Light Blast" (1985) starring Erik Estrada as Inspector Ronn Warren. Filmed in the San Francisco, California area. Warren commandeers a race buggy to chase the perpetrator who is driving a white Jaguar XJ-S that was modified by German tuner Willie Koenig.
White mid '60's Beetle in intersection. Hits a pedestrian as it stops short to avoid the Jaguar; then driver gets out to tend to the pedestrian as the buggy drives past.
The race buggy labeled "Arciero" is a pro-built buggy driven by Albert Arciero per IMDB credits. His family is known for real estate development, vineyards near Paso Robles, CA.; and being a strong competitor in off-road racing in the 1980's.
The final scene of the car chase has the buggy flying over water in the port area to land on a barge. |

Just rewatched "The World's Fastest Indian" with Anthony Hopkins. In it, Burt Munro is driven to the used car lot by Tina in a red and white sunroof beetle, circa 1960.
Great movie for gearheads. |
Fact-based movie about New Zealander Burt Munro (Anthony Hopkins) who modifies a 1920 Indian brand motorcycle in his small home workshop for top speed record attempts at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA in 1967. The red Beetle sunroof is a '58/'59 based on the steering wheel, although IMCDB lists it as a '60. Tina, the driver, who is the transvestite clerk at the local hotel in which Munro stays, is played by Chris Williams.
There's a light blue Beetle in background on the salt flats, might be a big-bumper '68+. |

Air date 10/16/22 CBS Sunday Morning, Ep 41, A Nation Divided?
This segment had nothing to do with VWs, but the differences between working class and college graduates.
PHD former corporate think tank employee Matthew Crawford, now owns a Motorcycle repair shop and appently likes air cooled VWs.
