It was one of those day where one little thing eats way too much time, though next time need to stop early and have a think.
It was two things, the first being no wires to the starter, turns out that relay no one seemed to know what it was is a hard start relay. The second was finding the original holes and getting the screws in, especially as used Master's Series Silver and made sure to plug the holes since understood not going to be needed and then applied ceramic thermal coating (Second Skin's customer service is stellar, sent a free bucket as the first lost some of its contents, not all, plus the product makes a huge difference https://www.secondskinaudio.com/heat-insulation/firewall-coating).
I am a little stumped on the wiring, of course the stock wiring digram is no help.Where does the spade connector go, top or bottom?
After installing, realized this is the ground, right?
Did have some help installing the relay.

No problem.
If any doubt, you could try to bunch up the rubber seal a bit in the channel. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Personally would just get rid of the hard start relay, and fix the voltage drops in the wiring and the grounds.
Top spade, bottom is supposed to be for FI if memory serves correctly.
Only way to tell if that is a ground would be to get the terminal numbers off the relay and which color wire is attached to each terminal number. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

I was wondering why it was installed. Must not have helped much, Dad was talked into by Rich's having them convert to 12 volts for easy starting. My quandary is how then to wire it otherwise, especially reaching the starter with current wire lengths.

Okay.

Thank you Phil for answering the question, it is appreciated.

A bigger gap make it easier?

Why I removed the flash.

They are anodized aluminum, so polishing will probably not work. There is "chrome" paint that is supposed to settle to a decent mirror finish, but I'm not sure how it works on curved surfaces, and how it will/won't hold up. |
Yes, though once worn thorough, it corrodes and can be polished. I tried finding you the video that contained this information (they are selling so no other useful information). All that time I was getting black oxidization on the rags.
Good idea about "chrome" paint, could try it on the other trim that yet to have rubber replaced, if don't work out no loss.

I don't Type 3s had plastic trim, IIRC it was very late Beetles. The one I saw the wiper was over it and causing loss of the paint, very tiny, though I notice details most don't see. Nice this aluminium trim is available new, the original got bent in the hasty move. Plus, allows those with plastic trim to upgrade. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

I am not going to be custodian of another Type 1 and since didn't come with plastic trim, was inquiring if applied to my other interest of knowledge gaining. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

Short day, think got dehydrated so played it safe.
Decklid seal is in, forgot to take a picture. To install the seal requires a pick to get under the sheet metal lip and clean every last bit of the old seal out.
I could not read the letters on the relay so seeing no other ground and does not reach the starter, put the wire with ring terminal going from the relay as ground and got all but the one damaged wires going to the starter installed.
Please let me know if any of the wires are in the incorrect position, thanks. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

What are the circuit numbers on the bottom of the relay? Each terminal should have a number indicating what circuit it serves. _________________ Jimbo

After that silly polishing, I have been having nasal difficulty, including:
the first day was dry and sore that left around the beginning of day two,
and the congestion and pressure has not gone away.
Plus, the dizziness has come sometime, really noticed it this morning (bent over and nearly went over, thankfully my friend didn't see it or have me stop working).
So folks be careful about breathing chemical vapors, I know better, just thought only be a few minutes.
Now wondering if why having some cognitive difficulty and extra irritability (though the latter maybe because I am worn out).
Today was just getting the throw out bearing back in, so out of it was a major struggle. Turns out it really helps having the clutch cable adjusted as short as possible.
Then went to install the muffler and realized that wasn't happening.

Looks like you need to lift the left side to fit it on. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Not possible. With one side on, the other is that far off, as seen in the picture.
Wolfsburg West was just as puzzled as I am (welded in a fixture and no damage during shipping) and with the understanding the replacement might also be out of alignment, said would send it this morning. If it fits, then I send back the first. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

It looks like you are trying to fit both sides loosely before tightening anything, the correct approach. It often takes some force and prying, but this looks worse than most. |

Yes, I mount it then bolt it. I have installed a few exhausts and all have slipped on, no prying needed. However, I did try some force, I don't know my own strength so went easy so didn't damage anything.
I can't believe it, Wolfsburg West sent it via FedEx and be here Saturday. The soonest I could get to it be Monday morning, planning to glue the lower part of the windshield on and requires 48 hours to cure. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills.
