Thank you moogie. The beautiful boot with white piping really makes a big difference as well. Wink

Thanks Obus.
I had a chance to test drive the car with the new tires yesterday and OMG, it was like a totally different car. It felt as if the suspension had been completely rebuilt. Used to be every bump in the road caused lots of rattles and noises and a very rough ride. I had very little experience with old VW's so I thought it was normal. Now that's all gone and the ride is so soft and quiet. The old tires had no wear on them but they were approximately 25 years old. Must have gotten very hard and stiff. So glad I didn't wait to replace them.

If the car sat over that long of time it probably had flat spots too. Glad its driving like a dream for you!

We took Regatta for a fall foliage ride today but first it was time for the top to go back up. It had been down all summer and I wasn't sure what to expect. I pulled the top up the last 2 inches seemed impossible so I left it out in the hot sun, although not a hot day. After a few hours and several attempts, I finally was able to get the top closed. The crank handle seems like such a fragile design!

The foliage seemed to suddenly appear over night this year. It's one of the most colorful shows I've seen in a several years. First stop was at the Vermont Flower Farm in Marshfield VT.

We then made a stop at the still free public beach in West Danville, Vermont. We met a charming older couple who were just sitting by the water for the afternoon. She with her knitting and he enjoying a cold beer.

While there we decided to get a picture of Hastings Store, where it's like walking back in time 100 years. The store still serves as the local post office and sells some of the best freshly baked treats around.

When ever I go though Plainfield Vermont, I can't help admire this beautiful old barn that is very unique. Sadly it has slowly been collapsing and no one seems to think it's worth saving. This is unfortunately what's happening to many old barns in Vermont as local Farms continue to disappear.

Our last stop was in East Montpelier. This guy's hobby is creating a sort of western movie set in his yard and then he takes advantage of the different holidays and seasons to decorate it.

This is the longest drive I've made with the car, 64 miles with no problems. Drove most of the trip doing 50 to 60 mph. The new tires make such a big difference

Your Ghia is beautiful and deserves every minute of the time you so lavishly bestow on it. Your countryside is equally beautiful.

Keep sharing, please.

A suggestion, if I may: How about posting a road trip for each season? Fall (autumn in the English-speaking world, just saying) is apparent in the photos you posted today. I'm waiting for winter, spring and summer.

That would be awesome, except winter in Vermont/Connecticut wouldn't be too fun, but I would do it in a vert just for the pic! Come on Marc, when the snow drops and the temp is at -5 F post some pics. and not just in your driveway!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing

I'm lucky to get her to come for a ride once in a while. Very Happy But she has always been Totally supportive and is happy that I have a hobby I enjoy. I've been trying to convince her she would have fun with an old beetle but she's not falling for it. Laughing

Thank you Chris. I have to agree with you on both counts. 68 is not my favorite year for Ghias. I've never liked those round reflectors, but Regatta really is a beauty! Very Happy I never get bored of driving around in VT. It's a very expensive state to live in but I would not want to live anywhere else.

I like your seasonal road trip idea but Jeff is right. Spring and summer is no problem and I suppose winter might be possible but the weather would have to really cooperate to get clean roads. There's a reason why we don't see a lot of old VW's here - road crews are very generous with the road salt in winter. I will try not to disappoint but I'm not making any promises as I'm dropping the engine at the end of the month to clean it, replace rubber seals, paint the tins, and just to say I've removed and reinstalled a Ghia engine. What would look even better Jeff, is TWO Verts on the snow covered road so drive your car up to Vermont in a few months and we'll get it done. Laughing

I'm hip to the idea, just because, that is if I can get my damn engine started!! But yeah, thinking about driving on salty roads doesn't sound fun. They like to "Brine" the roads here in Virginia when they anticipate any threat of snow. Even though I had the whole underside undercoated and have sprayed cavity wax in just about every crevice, I'm hoping it will deter rust as long as possible.

VT uses Brine as well. I've been told brine is even worse than salt and it will eat up metal fast. My every day drivers, both Toyotas, get sprayed with liquid film every 3 or 4 years and no visible rust on either car. One is 9 years old. My son though has a 5 year old GMC pickup and both rockers are shot, rusted through. He's fighting with GMC for warranty repair.

It can come too early here but autumn is so beautiful in VT. Hope to get up in the mountains this weekend, with Regatta of course.

This is the front cover of the 1968 Karmann Ghia Sales Brochure and I noticed a few interesting details. The brochure is dated 1967.
I see at least 4 things that are not correct for the 68. Can you find them, and any others that I might have missed?

This is not a case of borrowing previous year material as the one year only high back front seats are clearly in this car.

Marc, from one '68 owner to another: My '68 had a mirror on the front fender and the indicator lights were clear, not orange glass/plastic. The steering wheel also did not have a spoke such as I see in the photo. The rear view mirror on my Ghia had a black back (facing the front of the car).

That said: every Ghia was handbuilt, and unused parts were sometimes used in the transition from one model year to the next. Those two factors, to my mind, are good news because they free us from the fanaticism that requires slavish compliance with "originality".
