Huh?
Are you asking if you can make a M8 bolt with a 1.25 pitch a M6 with a 1.0 pitch? _________________ Glenn

What are you trying to build/modify/fix?
Step studs are pretty common and available. Especially m8 down to m6. I have a few in a pile on the bench. They send them with new aluminum cases to use with old non-doghouse oil coolers.

ACE Hardware has a nice selection of metric bolts and step studs. _________________ Glenn

Brian, thank you for the help and asking.
I am adding a Maxi spin on filter to Ruby's 1200cc engine. Being the engine is in fantastic shape (about 125psi of compression despite over 250,000 miles) I am nervous about drilling and tapping the case.
The length of the stud needs to be at least 40mm, 9mm longer than the oil cooler step studs (10mm case depth, 25mm thickness of the oil pump and oil filter casting, plus enough to get nuts on). _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Oh? Okay, thank you for letting me know!
I will see if can bum a ride over there (why buy most everything online). My friend says he is enabling me to get transportation from others, then gets upset when I buy a water pump pick online when he take me to Harbor Fright, then when ask when can we go, says not transporting me because that be enabling. Wish knew why neurotypicals are so confusing. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

Weird, now only have the 25mm and 31mm lengths:https://belmetric.com/m6-to-m8-stepped-stud-class-8-8-steel/?. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

You would be better off to just tap the oil pump holes to 8mm. You can minimize the aluminum cuttings and your adding a filter so it would trap anything left and there is probably worse stuff in the sump already since you didn't have a filter! |

You cannot just drill and install 8mm studs where there 6mm studs go. The 8mm oil pump holes are offset from the 6mm Stud holes.
I built a jig many years ago out of a 8mm steel pump cover and welding tubing pieces to so drill would go straight when drilling offset holes.
It is really is best to do this in a mill.
If it was mine and did want to take engine apart, I would just use longer 6mm bolts.
It does work and has been done before. Pump is not going to rotate. _________________ Joseph

I just use a old 8mm pump body so it gets perfectly centered! |

Why I am going to put some 1990s vintage oil in and run for a while. I was going to do this previously, had to move in a hurry, didn't have time to button up the valve train and put the cover on, thought the engine was level, however, it was not, filled the floor of Ruby with oil, now don't have to worry about the pan rusting further. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills.
