Thought I would share a video posted by the shop that did the work on my car. Not for everyone I know, but I thought it might be informative to anyone considering this option.

Looks great!! Wish i could to that here in Sweden... I know that it can be done, but it is soo expensive, it did cost around 3-4k (USD) back in the late 90s, i would guess over 5k now.
You have the best foundation possible for inspection/metalwork/paintprep now! |

So now all the folded joints are starting to rust faster than they ever have. The steel has been cleaned of any paint and now is super reactive and will rust extremely quickly.
External acid cleaning is great but not for total immersion.
Remember VW completely dipped the body in paint for a reason to seal off all the inaccessible and folded joints. _________________ 1968 1500 RHD Lotus White Beetle since birth. In the hospital for major surgery

Like I said "Not for Everybody"
Not too many shops doing it here anymore. I'm lucky to be a few hours away. After cleaning a rust inhibitor is applied. Straight to the paint shop from there. Full prep then primer. All the hidden areas are painted with a wand equipped with a rotating nozzle. |

Wish you would have called me, before making the trip to Eugene.
I have a 67 vert decklid that needs a dipping in the acid bath!
Oh well. I guess I can ship it in a container and get the job done.
Your car body looks great BTW. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Certainly if you e coat after acid dipping then you have protection. The e coat process requires dipping in a solution and then an electric current is introduced to deposit a zinc rich coating at the MOLECULAR level meaning folded joints are probably treated.
Just spraying with a rust inhibitor (sodium nitrite?) of painting with a wand may just bridge over metal areas and not wick into small cavities. _________________ 1968 1500 RHD Lotus White Beetle since birth. In the hospital for major surgery
